It was a nice, sunshiny morning on July 21, but a little on the muggy side. I’ll take that over the rain.
After doing laundry on Monday, some of us church women, Clara Hershberger, Kathryn Wengerd, Ada Yoder, Abner Mary Miller, Cora Kurtz, Andy Barb Miller, Mary Hershberger, John Mat Miller and I, took Barbara Slabach out to Mary Yoder’s for her birthday. We really surprised her. Her daughter Agnes also joined us. We had a great time.
Born to Daniel and Rosanna Slabaugh, a son, Danny Ray. He has two sisters and a 10-year-old brother. I suppose the excitement ran pretty high. Grandparents are Joe and Mary Yoder of Tavern Road and Uria and Elizabeth Slabaugh of Burton.
Paul, son of Willis and Sarah Miller of Huntsburg, was hit by a jeep on July 20. He was transported to Cleveland Metro Hospital in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Paul is 13.
Wedding bells are ringing for Linda, daughter of Joe and Betty Yoder of Mumford Road, and Robert, son of Bill and Betzy Miller of Tavern Road. The wedding is Aug. 7.
Going to Cook Forest July 14-19 were Danny and Karen Miller and two girls, of Tavern Road, Aden and Rosanna Troyer and two children, of Girdle Road, and Danny Ray and Betty Miller of Shedd Road.
Visitors the evening of July 20 with Aden Troyer’s were parents Dan and Sylvia and children. Our visitors were son Joe Jr. and Saloma and two girls.
Planning to visit sister Betty and family in Mio, Mich., July 31 to Aug. 2 are Sylvia and Danny Ray, their daughter Rosanna, Aden and two children, son Danny Ray Jr. and wife Betty and Danny and Sylvia’s five children.
My letter from two weeks ago did not get printed. Maybe the fax did not go through.
July 20 was the funeral of Ervin T. Yoder of Guys Mills, Pa. His wife died of cancer around 10 months ago. They were formerly from the Burton area. Several vanloads went from here.
Did you know?
A dime has 118 ridges around its edge.
A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.
A crocodile cannot stick out its tongue.
A shark is the only fish that can blink both eyes. (I wonder who figured that out.)
A snail can sleep for three years.
Butterflies taste with their feet.

“Waiter, I’d like a cup of coffee, please, with no cream.”
“I’m sorry sir, but we’re out of cream. How about with no milk?”
“Waiter, I can’t seem to find any oysters in this oyster soup.”
“Well, would you expect to find an angel in an angel food cake?”
You all have a good week. Stay cool.
