On Aug. 7, we were at the wedding at neighbor Joe and Betty Yoder’s house of their daughter Linda to Robert, son of Bill and Betzy Miller. They had a beautiful day, with delicious food. It was a big wedding. There were relatives from Pennsylvania, New York and a boy from Colorado who was here visiting friends and relatives.
Joe and I and our married children and spouses met daughter Betty and Melvin Byler in Holmes County for dinner on Aug. 12. Melvin’s were coming down from Michigan for a woodworking and furniture show, as they are in the furniture business.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Henry Fisher family since Henry has not been feeling well. Our thoughts are also with the Vernon Hershberger family since Vernon has not been feeling well. Their daughter Betty Ann is planning to get married on Aug. 21. We hope to attend. We’re also invited to the wedding of Rose Byler of Orwell and Donnie, son of Noah and Nora Mae Hershberger of Georgia Road, on Sept. 11.
Visitors the evening of Aug. 10 were son Ray’s and children, son Mark’s and children and daughter Sylvia and family. We sat on the patio visiting and having snacks. All too soon, fall will be here. The days are getting shorter and the purple martins will soon be leaving. It’s time to get the woodsheds filled for the winter. Our wood is cut, but needs to be stacked in the woodshed, yet.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Donnie and Nancy Miller family of Tavern Road since Nancy has a brain tumor. I do not know what or if she will be taking treatments.
Chuckles
A blond walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she’s going to Europe for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The officer says they will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blond hands over the keys to a new Mercedes Benz SL500. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank. She has the title and everything checks out. The bank president agrees to accept the car collateral for the loan. The bank’s president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blond for using an $110,000 Benz as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee then proceeds to drive the car into the bank’s underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the blond returns, pays the $5,000 and interest, which came to $15.41.
The loan officer says, “Miss, we are very happy to have had your business and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found out that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles me is why would you bother to borrow $5,000?”
The blond replies, “Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?”
Finally a smart blond joke.
You all have a good week.
