It was a cloudy morning on Jan. 19. It was not a very nice day to dry laundry outside, but at least it was not as cold as it has been.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Mrs. Albert Lydia Kurtz, who died early in the morning of Jan. 18. The funeral was planned to be the morning of Jan. 20.

Our thoughts are at the hospital with sister Fannie Yoder. She tripped and fell the evening of Jan. 16 and broke her hip. She had surgery Saturday afternoon. We hope she will be able to come home sometime this week.

Joey and Betzy Miller, of Mio, Mich., and Jake Detweiler, of Cashton, Wis., were in the area this past week, coming for a family get-together. Joey’s family got together at his sister Mrs. Nancy Yoder’s on Patch Road, but I do not know where the Detweilers gathered.

Sister Liz and Joe Yoder, of Mio, Mich., have been very sick with that awful flu. Joe also has a bad heart condition. They are both in their eighties. They are building a smaller house for them to move into before long.

Mrs. Simon Yoder is also a patient at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. She had been staying at her daughter Mary and Abner’s for the past several months following surgery. Also a patient there is Mrs. Robert Emma Miller.

Still a few little people missing in church with the flu on Sunday. So far, we have escaped.

The evening of Jan. 18, our family surprised son Perry for his 50th birthday. We got together with his in-laws and families at the home of Ervin and Fannie Yoder’s on Donley Road. We had cake, ice cream and the works. He was given gifts plus 50 candy bars. That should sweeten him up. His wife Kate is still not able to put much weight on her broken leg. She goes for therapy this week. So, hopefully, she will soon be better.

We are gearing up for the maple syrup meeting taking place here on Jan. 24. The producers will set up the evening of Jan. 23 and will have food and coffee to serve. There are many different dishes made with maple syrup added. There is quite a selection. We will serve a chicken dinner on Saturday and expect any where from 80 to 110 people.

Time for lunch so will close. All have a good week.
