Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country,

It was a beautiful morning on June 22. Laundry was drying on the lines, so I was able to have a cup of java while getting my letter written.

Our trip to Davis County, Ind., was a great trip. We had a chartered bus going with 56 passengers for the Down’s syndrome reunion. We left the morning of June 18 and returned home on June 19 around midnight. The next reunion is planned to be in Holmes County.

Born to John Mark and Ruth Ann Hershberger, of Shedd Road, on June 9 a daughter Hannah Ruth. Grandparents are Ray and Judy Miller and Bob and Sylvia Hershberger. This is also our great-granddaughter. Brothers Lucas and Caleb welcome her home.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Daniel Bontrager Jr. family in the passing of wife and mother Leona. She passed away on June 21. We have not heard what she died from. She is the daughter of widow Mrs. Fannie Troyer, who had her home at Daniel’s.

Plans were for Joe and Katherine Byler to move into their new house last weekend. It has been four weeks since they lost everything to a fire.

The evening of June 21, supper guests at Joe and Saloma Miller’s, of Shedd Road, were Dan and Sylvia Miller and children, Dan and Leona Gingerich and daughter Missy, Bob and Mary Lou E. Miller and children, and Ray and Judy and Maria Miller. It turned out nice, after all, to sit outside around the campfire.

Richard and Sue Miller family took homemade ice cream and treated the Marty H. Miller family the evening of June 21.

Sister Fannie Yoder is doing better, but I am afraid she still won’t be able to go the Hershberger family reunion in Fredericktown, Ohio, on June 26. We expect a busload coming from Cashton, Wis., as well as a vanload from Mio, Mich., a load from Jasper, N.Y., and hopefully several loads from Pennsylvania. We have a bus plus a van going from our area.

On June 27, the family of Robert and Nora Miller, who both passed away within several months time, has plans to have a family auction. Then, Robert’s daughter Nora Mae and family will move into her parent’s home.

Still lots of weddings going on. We have invitations to three at present. One is for Joe’s nephew Vernon Miller and Melody Mast in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Aug. 21. I doubt we’ll be able to go, as we have too much else going on.

Bits and Pieces

Welshfield, Ohio: June 22, 1891

Jacob, little son of Isaac Hershberger’s, died on June 7. He was 7 years, 2 month and 8 days old. (It doesn’t say what he died of.)

Corn is growing very fast now, it being so wet the past few weeks that some didn’t cultivate their corn yet.

On Monday and Tuesday, we had heavy rainstorms, with lightning. The barn belonging to C.L. Beales was struck by lightning, instantly killing two horses and left one standing between them uninjured!

George Kleinshrot’s house was also struck by lightning, but no one was injured, but the buildings had some damage.

Chuckles

A man decided to wash his own workout clothes, but once in the laundry room, he was at a total loss.

He yelled at his girlfriend, “What washing machine setting do I use for this sweatshirt?”

“it all depends,” she answered. “What does it say on the sweatshirt?”

A moment later he shouted, “University of Arizona Football.”

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest pumpkin pie, zucchini bread and carrot cake.

You all have a good week.
