It was a rainy morning on Sept. 28. Laundry wouldn’t dry on the outside lines, so being that I have a bum knee, I did other things on Monday. I went out to the Wellness One for a treatment but I will probably need several more.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Levi and Esther Yoder since he is not feeling well. He is under a doctor’s care.

The benefit dinner and auction for the Marty Miller family on the evening of Sept. 25 was a success. Marty has multiple sclerosis and also is not well with cancer. The family expressed a big thank-you to all who helped in any way. Their 4-year-old grandson spent several days in the hospital after being hit in the head with a baseball. He is home and doing OK.

Mrs. Clara Hershberger, of Mumford Road, had eye surgery on Sept. 22. She is coming along pretty well, although she missed being in church on Sept. 27.

Mrs. Martha (Mat) Miller, of Shedd Road, had a knee replacement surgery on Sept. 17. She is going to physical therapy and is doing well. She is enjoying her visitors. To send her get-well wishes, send to: Mrs. Martha Miller, 15060 Shedd Road, Burton, OH 44021.

Published to be married on Oct. 8 are Marlin, son of Perry and Katie Ann Miller of Shedd Road, and Marcia, daughter of Nelson and Ada Miller of Tavern Road.

Spending the evening of Sept. 27 at Marlin and Linda Miller’s off of Route 305 were her parents, Joe and Saloma Miller and two daughters, Dan and Sylvia Miller and three children, Rich and Susan Miller and six children, Wayne and Judy Miller and six children, Matt and Betty Miller and three little boys, Aden and Rosanna Troyer and two children, and Joe and I. We were served snacks and ice cream sitting around the campfire. It was a pleasant evening. All too soon this will end for another season.

Visitors with Marta Miller, of Shedd Road, the morning of Sept. 28 were Katie Ann Miller and Mrs. Martha (Emanuel) Hershberger.

Bits and Pieces

Welshfield, Ohio, Geauga County: Sept. 17, 1899

We are having dry weather at present.

Health is fair, as far as I’m aware of.

Corn cutting and preparing ground for seeding is the work among the farmers.

Church services were held at Ben Yoder’s last Sunday, where 22 young people were baptized by Bishop Moses Mast of Holmes County, Ohio.

We are having quite a number of visitors in our midst from Holmes County, and I hope some more will come.

— Yours Truly, John S. Hershberger

Chuckles

A woman entered her kitchen to find her boyfriend waving a fly swatter.

“What in heaven’s name are you up to?” she asked.

“Killing flies,” he said.

“Oh. Get any?” she asked.

“Yep, two males, three females,” he answered.

“Oh, come on! How can you tell them apart?” she asked.

“Two were on a beer can and three were on the phone,” he replied.

A first-grade teacher gave her students a picture to color. On it was a frog holding an umbrella. When the class handed them in, one little boy had colored his frog bright purple.

The teacher scolded him, asking, “How often have you seen a purple frog?”

The little boy answered, “The same number of times I’ve seen a frog holding an umbrella.”

You all have a good week.
