Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country,

It was a beautiful morning on May 16. It was another frosty morning and I wonder if the strawberry patches are cooked.

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Joe J. Miller in the passing of their mother. She died the morning of May 15. Her funeral was on May 18 at her old place on Jug Road. She had been living with her daughter Ida and Mahlon Slabaugh on Burton-Windsor Road for the past six months. She was a widow for 25 years.

We held a benefit auction at the shop to help a family with a hospital bill on May 18. On May 19, we are hosting a chicken dinner for the youth group in Leadership Geauga. We expect a group of between 25 and 30 students.

The funeral of Rudy A. Miller, 90, of Hubbard Road, was on May 7. A chartered bus came from Cashton, Wis., for the funeral. My nephew Crist C. Hershberger stopped in to visit us for a while in the afternoon.

The funeral of Elmer Weaver, 90, of Parkman, was on May 15. He has one single daughter at home, yet. He has one sister left, Mrs. J.J. Miller Liz, on Farmington Road.

Our blood donor list was down quite a bit in part due to the funeral of Rudy Miller. So, hopefully, the next drive will be better. Thanks to all who came.

John J. Detweiler, of Burton-Windsor Road, was taken to the hospital the morning of May 16 with chest pains. Also, Mrs. Jonathon Alma Miller, of Georgia Road, has not been feeling well. She is taking tests.

Our school, Saw Mill Lane on Shedd Road, is planning to have an auction the evening of June 8. There will be pizza and wings, salad bar, pie, ice cream and root beer floats. Everyone is welcome.

Planning to be married on June 2 are Martha Mae, daughter of Reuben and Irene Byler of Nash Road, and Freemon, son of widow Mrs. Marty Erma Miller of Shedd Road. We have five wedding invitations at present. I am afraid we will not be able to attend them all.

Our sons and sons-in-law plan to surprise our son-in-law Melvin Byler on May 20 for his birthday. He lives in Mio, Mich. I have plans to go along, too, leaving Friday morning and coming home Saturday evening, May 21.

A friendly greeting to the editor and all readers.

Health is fair. Weather is quite cool and not much has been done in the ground, yet.

Crist Schlabach’s new house is completed and occupied by Joe J. Miller, who came here from Holmes County this spring.

Sam Weaver, Jeremiah Troyer and Christian D. Miller and their families intend to leave for Michigan in the near future to make that their home.

The electric road from Cleveland to this place is completed.

Chuckle: The Broken Elevator

Jay, Tom and Paul were at a convention together sharing a large suite at the top of a 75-story hotel. After a long day of meetings, they were shocked to hear the elevators in their hotel were broken and they would have to climb 75 flights to get to their rooms.

Jay said to Tom and Paul, “Let’s break the monotony of this unpleasant task by concentrating on something interesting. I’ll tell jokes for 25 flights, Tom can sing for the next 25 flights and Paul will tell sad stories the rest of the way.”

At the 26th floor, Jay stopped telling jokes and Jim began to sing. At the 51st floor, Tom stopped singing and Paul began to tell sad stories.

“I will tell my saddest story first,”?he said. “I left the room key in the car.”

You all have a good week.
