Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,

Winter came back and I suppose this makes the maple syrup folks happy. It will prolong the sweet stuff.

I saw a robin hopping around the past few days. The fish work worms that were out when it was so warm last week have now all froze. So, what will they eat now? Poor things…

Visitors in the area the afternoon of Feb. 28 until the afternoon of March 1 were daughter Betty and her daughter Juanita, my sister Clara and Eli Kauffman, sister Sylvia and Albert Miller and Joe Byler and Barbara. They all came from Mio, Mich. Barbara stayed and went to visit her sister and family, Crist Gingeriches in Guys Mills, Pa. Sister Sylvia brought me some delicious oranges and grapefruit. They get fruit shipped in from California by the truckload for their community.

My thoughts are up at Geauga Hospital as brother-in-law Melvin Yoder is in with blood clots in his lung and leg. He has severe pain.

It was 55 degrees at 11 a.m. on March 6. The clothes were drying very nicely.

Our sympathy goes out to the Bill A.C. Miller family in the passing of their son and brother. He passed from different health issues.

Brother-in-law Melvin Yoder is still in the hospital on I.V. as they are trying to get his blood thinner regulated. He has hopes to home March 7.

The evening of March 2, Dan and Sylvia Miller, Joe and Saloma Miller, Mrs. John Mat Miller, Mrs. Lydiann Miller, Allen D. Miller, Chester, Timmy Miller and I visited Tom and Linda Byler and family in Carlton, Pa. We were served ice cream, apple goodies and snacks. We had an enjoyable evening. They have a used goods store and also raise different kinds of puppies.

There will be a blood drive at Joe’s Window Shop on March 11. All are welcome to come and donate. Blood is always urgently needed.

On March 17 and 18, there will be a breakfast at Joe’s Window Shop for Georgia Road School. It will be all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, coffee and donuts. Mark your calendars.

From Out of the Past

Burton, Ohio: Feb. 12, 1893

We have had good sleighing for about eight weeks until last week when we had pure ice and those that didn’t have their horses shod were obliged to leave them in the stable. Today it began to thaw and is very pleasant.

Welshfield, Ohio: Feb. 22, 1893

Changeable weather. Rain, snow, warm and cold all together.

Moving is the order of the day.

Daniel Miller started for Iowa last week to spend the summer.

Mrs. Daniel Byler and John Yharkey are both very low with Dropsy. The latter is not expected to live.

Chuckle

An insomnia sufferer went to his doctor who advised to drink a pint of milk before retiring. The next day the patient returned complaining that it didn’t work.

“Did you do as I ordered?” asked the doctor. “Did you drink a pint of milk?”

“Yeh,” was the reply, “and it certainly took a lot of coffee to do it.”

Thought of the Day

Success is relative – the more success, the more relatives.

Cheerfulness, joy and contentment are preservers of youthful looks.

You all have a nice day.
