Grease Opens July 17 at GLTG

The teen musical workshop draws to a close with its performance of “Grease: School Edition,” directed by Lisa-Marie French. Forty-three students have spent six weeks learning lines, songs and choreography while helping with costumes and props. The result is a fun, family friendly story set in 1959.

Spend “Summer Nights” with Geauga Lyric Theater while enjoying the musical romping of the “Burger Boys” and the “Pink Ladies.”

Grease runs July 17-19. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. all three days, along with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for all seats.

Knowledge Rising Concert

Knowledge Rising Music Festival will be held July 19 from 3-9 p.m. at Kent State University Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton. Local bands take the stage playing until the Cleveland Pops begin at 8 p.m. Bring a chair and enjoy the free concert.

Family Commissions Musical Composition

To honor the 75th birthday of local musician Michael A. Fath, of Burton, Fath’s family commissioned composer Roy J. Hawthorn to create an original concert band composition. The piece, titled “A Geauga Fantasy,” will premier in a joint concert with The Great Geauga County Fair Band and the Hillcrest Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. July 22 in the Forest Picnic area of the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Willoughby Hills.

Hawthorn will be directing the performance of his original composition, which consists of four parts, each reflecting a different aspect of Fath’s life. Fath, who plays clarinet in both bands, will be participating in the performance.

Bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor concert, which is free and open to the general public.
