Geauga Caprine Kids

Geauga Caprine Kids is a 4-H club that is open to kids ages 5-18. Meetings are held the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Patterson Center at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. It is a livestock/animal club whose members show goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys and small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits. Kids run the meetings with guidance from club advisors Rachael and Jim Toth, Heather Lane and Patricia Sharpnack.

Officers were elected and for 2013 are: Abigail Lane, president; Sofia Larkins, vice president; Gillian Petrovic, secretary; and Tori Lane, treasurer.

Additional leadership roles include health and safety officers, recreation officer, photographer (historian), refreshments, webmaster, news reporter and Sunshine Committee officers. There are many opportunities for the members to learn new jobs and roles within the club.

Upcoming fundraising events will include a cheese sale as well as candy bar sales. Please support the 4-H clubs. The fundraisers help buy resource books and fund community service projects like Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. The next community service outing will take place at Briar Hill nursing home, where Geauga Caprine kids members will bring baby goats, rabbits and guinea pigs to entertain the residents and answer questions.

If this sounds like something you would want your child to learn about, please contact Patricia Sharpnack at 440-635-0226. Enrollment deadline is April 15 and the club is accepting new members.

Next meeting is Feb. 16 in the basement meeting room at the Patterson Center.
