Geauga Dems Hot Topic Dinner

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its monthly spaghetti dinner served with a hot topic at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall, 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Ohio Rep. Kathleen Clyde will moderate a Geauga County kitchen table conversation.

Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for networking, followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the hot topic at 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $12.

Trinkets And Treasures Sale

April 27-29

The Federated Church of Chagrin Falls will hold its annual Trinkets and Treasures sale of household and kitchen goods, sporting equipment, holiday decor, gently worn clothing and accessories, tools, books, children’s toys, electronics and more at the Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge. A boutique area will offer jewelry, antiques, collectibles and vintage and designer clothing.

East Geauga Kiwanis Fish Frys

April 28, 4:30-7 p.m.

East Geauga Kiwanis Club is holding a fish fry at its new location at Cardinal Middle School, 16175 Alameda Drive in Middlefield. Additional fish frys will be held May 12 and 26.

Choose from an all you can eat fish dinner or a shrimp dinner. Dinner includes sides and beverage. Desserts are available for donation.

Audubon Visits Arboretum

April 29, 10 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will explore the Myrtle S. Holden Wildflower Garden with horticulturist Ann Rzepka Budziak in the outdoor portion of her presentation on Ohio’s native wildflowers. She will show participants the plant communities she tends in this five-acre garden.

Meet at the Corning Visitor Center. Admission to the Holden Arboretum will be free for those attending Blackbrook’s program. After the hike, anyone wanting to visit the canopy walk or emergent tower who is not a member of Holden will have to pay $4 per ticket at the visitor center. KOC Pancake Breakfast

St. Mary of Chardon Knights of Columbus will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon at St. Mary Church, 401 North St., Chardon. Senior discount is now offered. Parking is free for the Maple Festival.

Auburn Spring Plant Sale

Auburn Career Center’s Landscape Horticulture spring plant sale begins May 1 at 10985 Girdled Road, right behind the high school. LWV Hosts Free Speech Forum

May 5, 2 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Geauga County will host its annual free speech forum at Munson Town Hall, 12210 Auburn Road. All are welcome.

Speakers will be state Sen. John Eklund and state Reps. Sarah LaTourette and John Patterson. They will each have 10 minutes to present on the state of the state, followed by questions from the audience.

GCBDD Garage Sale

May 6, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Geauga County Board of Develop- mental Disabilities (GCBDD) is hosting a garage sale organized by staff.

All proceeds will be used to provide activity opportunities for the residents of the Intermediate Care Facility (ICF).

The garage sale will include gently used items from the board and community donations. There will also be homemade baked goods for sale.

The goal of the sale is to raise funds for residents to participate in activities such as social outings.

The garage sale will take place at the GCBDD, 8200 Cedar Road, Chesterland.

Fresh Farmers’ Market Opens

May 6, 9 a.m. to noon

The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market opens for its 16th season in the South Russell Village parking lot at Chillicothe and Bell roads. The market will be open every Saturday, rain or shine, until October.

Customers will receive a complementary BlueCrop blueberry plant donated by Hawthorne Springs Greenhouse in Burton – while they last.  There will be two drawings and free balloons. Everyone is welcome.

The Perennial Gardeners’ Annual Plant Sale at Chester Township Town Hall, 13455 Chillicothe Road.

The Perennial Gardeners meet at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of most months at West Geauga Middle School. Membership is open to those living in Geauga County.

Geauga Bowmen Swap Meet

May 13-14

Swap Meet and Shoot is May 13, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and May 14, with registration from 8 a.m. to noon, at Geauga Bowmen Archery 12525 Sperry Road in Chester Township.

Bring archery equipment to sell or swap. Shoots are open to all archery classes and to the public with free youth equipment rentals available. Food and refreshments available.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for Cubs.

Firehouse Rib Dinner

May 14

Hambden Fire Department is holding its annual Mother’s Day take home rib dinner. Dinner includes St. Louis pork spare ribs, potato wedges, beans, slaw and a drink. Cost is $20 for a full slab dinner and $16 for a half slab dinner.

Pick up between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Delivery is available for safety forces.

Amateur Radio License Testing

May 14, 1 p.m.

Technician, General and Extra license testing will be given at the Geauga County Emergency Operations Center, 12518 Merritt Road, Munson Township. Testing is free.

Sponsored by Geauga Amateur Radio Association and Federal Communication Commission, preregistration is not required. Licensed volunteers will give and grade tests onsite.

WomenSafe Spring Luncheon

May 17

The 18th annual Friends of WomenSafe spring luncheon, “CAROUSEL – Euclid Beach Memories,” will be held in the banquet room at St. Mary’s, 401 North St. in Chardon. Keynote speaker John Frato, president of the Euclid Beach Now Society, will tell the story of the search, rescue and reconstruction of the famous Euclid Beach Carousel, one of Northeast Ohio’s most cherished memories.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Gift raffle items include certificates for restaurants, Kings Island, overnights, jewelry made by area artists and specialty baskets. Reserve House Catering will prepare lunch and guests will be serenaded with the music of harpist Virginia Dickson.

Cost is $30 per person, with a vegan, vegetarian or gluten free meal for $35.

Lake-Geauga Recovery Center will hold its 14th annual golf outing at Wicked Woods Country Club, 14085 Ravenna Road in Newbury Township. Fee is $99 per person and $396 per foursome. Hole sponsorships are available. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. and dinner and awards at 5 p.m.
