Benefit Auction For DDC Clinic

Oct. 14, 4 p.m.

A benefit auction for DDC Clinic ~ Center for Children with Special Needs will be held at 17719 Newcomb Road in Middlefield. Event features a live auction, including a 24-by-32-foot garage, quilts, furniture, tools, home décor, maple syrup, buggies, horses, ponies, harnesses and more.

Bake sale, barbecue chicken, soft pretzels and ice cream will be for sale. Lunch stand and carryout begin at 3 p.m.

Free Breakfast

Oct. 15, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The men of Ledgewood Christian Church are hosting their free monthly community breakfast at the church located at 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee. Ample parking is available in the rear of the church building. All are welcome.

Huntsburg Tire Drop-Off

Oct. 15, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Passenger car tire drop-off for Huntsburg Township residents only will be held at the Huntsburg Recreation Park, 17085 Mayfield Road. Tires may be on or off the rims, but must be dirt and mud free. No exceptions.

Grant funding provided by Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.

Flying Club Hosts Swap Meet

Oct. 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Geauga Radio Controlaires is hosting the fifth annual Jim Gardner Memorial RC Model Swap Meet at the Mentor Beach Park Pavilion, 7779 Lakeshore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

Eighty exhibitor tables of radio controlled planes, helicopters, quadcopters, cars, boats, radios, tools and accessories will be displayed for sale, barter and trade by regional modelers.

Admission is $5. Youth 11 and under are free. Parking is free. Hot food will be available.

Newbury Educational Foundation is hosting a community Trick or Treat at Newbury School. The indoor event is free.

DTJ Night At The Races

Oct. 15, 6 p.m.

DTJ Taborville is hosting its fifth annual Night at the Races at 9850 North Blvd. in Auburn Township. Doors open at 6 p.m., followed by a spaghetti and meatballs dinner at 6:30 p.m. and post time at 7:30 p.m. Event includes a Bohemian raffle. Cost is $10 per adult, 21 and over, general admission.

American Legion Pancake Breakfast

Oct. 16, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The American Legion, Geauga County Council is holding an early bird pancake breakfast benefit for Geauga County veterans in need at the Burton American Legion Atwood-Mauck Post 459, 14052 Goodwin Ave., Burton.

Enjoy all-you-can-eat buttermilk or blueberry pancakes with sausage or biscuits with sausage gravy.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12 and free for youth under 6.

F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary Dinners

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 2261, 317 Water St. in Chardon, hosts Friday Fish Fry dinners every Friday, Oct. 14 through April 14, except during holiday weeks, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost ranges from $7 to $10. Enjoy Lake Erie perch, orange roughy, shrimp or chicken tenders.

The FOE also serves spaghetti dinners every Tuesday, Oct. 12 through April 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Creations Boutique Sale

Oct. 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Children’s Guild of Cleveland is hosting its annual Creations boutique sale at the Acacia Reservation, 26899 Cedar Road, Beachwood. Beautiful handcrafted items by Guild artisans will be for sale and all proceeds will benefit area children’s agencies.

Admission is $5 at the door.

Audubon Features GPD Research

Oct. 18, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon, the local chapter of the Audubon Society covering Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties, will meet at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell. Field naturalists Linda Gilbert and Tami Gingrich will share their photos and videos from past and present bird research at Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township The program will cover shorebird and waterbird surveys and rail banding research. The presentation is open to all.

Good Samaritan Dinner

Oct. 19, 5-6:30 p.m.

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be held at the church on the square in Burton. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

The homemade meal consists of an entree, sides, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available by calling 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

Aquilegia Garden Club Meets

Oct. 20, 10:30 a.m.

Aquilegia Garden Club will meet at Christ Presbyterian Church in Chester Township. Master Gardner Phyllis Mihalik, from the OSU Extension office, will give a presentation on “Forcing Bulbs,” the process of getting flower bulbs to bloom ahead of schedule.

A short business meeting and luncheon will follow the presentation.

Geauga Dems Hot Topic Dinner

Oct. 20, 5:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Party will hold its monthly spaghetti dinner served with a hot topic at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall, 12420 Kinsman Road in Newbury. The after dinner topic of discussion is “Take Back Our Parks.”

Learn why so many people are concerned that the Geauga Parks System is moving away from its central purpose of conserving, preserving and protecting our natural resources. Kathy Hanratty, president of Protect Geauga Parks, will lead the discussion.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for networking, followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the hot topic at 7 p.m.

CVHS Road Trip

Oct. 21, 10 a.m.

Chagrin Valley Herb Society (CVHS) will take a road trip to Mulberry Creek Herb Farm at 3312 Bogart Road in Huron. Meet at Bainbridge Library to carpool, stopping for lunch before participating in a tour and presentation on miniature gardens by Karen and Mark Langan.

Blackbrook Audubon Field Trip

Oct. 22, 9 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will search for migrating shorebirds, raptors and songbirds at Frohring Meadows, 16780 Savage Road, Bainbridge Township. Hambden PTO Trunk or Treat

Oct. 22, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Hambden PTO will host its annual trunk or treat event at Hambden Township Park in the parking lot and pavilion 1.

Hambden CC Trunk or Treat

Oct. 22, 2-4 p.m.

A free trunk or treat event for the community will be held at Hambden Congregational Church, 13840 GAR Hwy. Come gather treats from car to car. The church will be serving hot dogs and chili.

Fresh Farmers’ Winter Market

The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market will open its winter market for its second year inside Lowe’s Greenhouse, Florist and Gift Shop, 16540 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge. The market will run from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday from Oct. 22 to Dec. 31 and then Jan. 7 to March 18.

The winter market will offer many fresh, local, quality products and many vendors familiar to those who attended both the summer and winter markets.

Food Pantry Open

Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to noon

The Food Pantry at Chester Christian Center church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone who is in need of food. You do not need to be a member of the church to come to the pantry.

Chester Christian Center is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Trunk or Treat

Oct. 29, 2-4 p.m.

Peace Lutheran Church, 12686 Bass Lake Road in Munson Township, is hosting Trunk or Treat, a Halloween safe event. Treats will be given from a circle of trunks and donuts and cider will be served in the church pavilion, lower parking lot.

Christmas Extravaganza

Nov. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

St Lucy’s Church, 16280 East High St. in Middlefield is holding a Christmas Extravaganza featuring a variety of vendors, bake sale, Chinese auction and pictures with Santa. Bring a camera.

Chardon Kiwanis Trivia Night

Nov. 5, 7 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club of Chardon is hosting its ninth annual Trivia Night at the Chardon VFW, 752 Water St., Chardon.

There will be a catered meal, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, prizes and snacks, plus a trivia game to challenge everyone’s knowledge. The winning team, which may be up to eight people, will win a cash prize.

Housing Coalition Chili Cookoff

Nov. 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Housing Coalition is holding its fourth annual fundraiser at Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. A portion of the proceeds will be used for homeless and at-risk veterans in Geauga County.

Numerous Geauga County agencies will have their special chili recipes for attendees to taste and judge.

Tickets are $10, which includes appetizers, chili tasting, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Gift Of Magi Boutique

Nov. 11-12

The annual Gift of Magi holiday boutique is Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. The boutique features hundreds of handcrafted items by more than 35 vendors. Admission is free.

A preview party for adults only will be held Nov. 11 from 7-9:30 p.m. The $5 admission includes preview of the boutique, hors d’oeuvres and wine.

Join the Boutique Bounce on Nov. 11 and 12 by also shopping the boutiques at St. Anselm Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester, and Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland. Participants will be eligible for one of three grand prizes by attending each boutique, getting a card stamped and turning it in at the last stop. Drawing will be Nov. 13; winners will be notified.

Leadership Geauga and the Burton, Chardon, Chesterland and Middlefield chambers of commerce will host “Creating Business Success Through a Positive Workplace” at Munson Township Hall, 12210 Auburn Road.

Arabica Coffee and Bada Bing Pizza will provide a free continental breakfast from 7:30-8 a.m.

The presentation and information sharing will begin at 8 a.m. Panelists include: Hexpol Compounding- Burton Rubber Processing, e2b Teknologies and Nevar Dental.
