A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items and Christmas items will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon. All is free.

PCC Chili Supper

Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m.

Pilgrim Christian Church is hosting its annual chili supper at 202 S. Hambden St. in Chardon. Join us for chili and community friendship before the Christmas lighting on Chardon Square.

Holiday Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are being sought to organize, pack and deliver meals during the upcoming holiday season. The Geauga County Department on Aging volunteers will deliver meals to seniors who are alone on Christmas day.

Volunteers pick up one holiday meal per route, drive it to the senior’s home and spend some time visiting. Volunteers are needed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

Preparation and organization assistance begins at 10 a.m. and runs until noon, while drivers arrive at 11:15 a.m. to deliver the holiday meals. All meals are delivered from the Multi-Purpose Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon.

2016 Festival of Trees

Middlefield Historical Society invites the community its biennial Festival of Trees. Dozens of beautifully decorated trees, a large collection of nativities and festive holiday décor will be displayed on all three levels of the Century Inn, 14979 South State Ave. in Middlefield Village.

The display will be open to the public Fridays, Dec. 2 and 9 from 4-8 p.m.; Saturdays, Dec. 3 and 10 from 12-6 p.m.; and Sundays, Dec. 4 and 11 from 12- 6 p.m.

Admission is free. Stop by The Depot next door for more holiday decorations and a free ice cream treat during open hours.

Donations will be accepted, and poinsettia sales and a 50/50 raffle will help defray expenses.

Breakfast with Santa

Dec. 3, 8:30-10 a.m.

Parkman Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Breakfast with Santa at the Parkman Community House, 16295 State Route 422. Bring a camera to take a photo child’s with Santa Claus and enjoy a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and pancakes.Cost is $3 for kids and $5 for each accompanying adult.For reservations, call Lucinda at 440-221-0577, Patty at 440-548-2242, Denise at 440-548-2939 or Sandy at 440-548-5740.

Breakfast With The Clauses

Dec. 3

Munson Township’s annual Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus takes place at the Munson Township Hall, 12210 Auburn Road.

Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4 to12. Children under 3 are free.

Pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available on a jump drive for $10, with proceeds going to Boy Scout Troop 91.

Sign-up forms may be downloaded at munsontwp.com or picked up at the township office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Advance registration required.

Rotary Breakfast with Santa

Dec. 3, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Chesterland Rotary Club is hosting its 26th annual all-you-can eat pancake and sausage Breakfast with Santa at the West Geauga High School cafeteria, 13401 Chillicothe Road.

Tickets are $6 per person. Children under 1 year old are free. A framed color photo with Santa is $3. Every child receives a free gift.

Tickets are available at the door or by sending a check to Chesterland Rotary Club, P.O. Box 722, Chesterland, OH 44026. Reserved tickets will be held at the door.

Dems Celebrate the Holiday Season

Dec. 3, 4-6 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host a holiday celebration reception at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall, 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Guests are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for a local food pantry. Additional parking is available on the far eastern side of the plaza. RSVP on the website www.geaugadems.org or call Janet Carson 440-836-4060.

Century Village Craft Show

Dec. 3-4
The Century Village Craft Show in Burton is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be a great opportunity to shop for people on one’s list and say hello to Santa Claus. After shopping, visit the Hickox house all decorated for Christmas.

Picture Your Dog With Santa

Dec. 4, 2-6 p.m.

The third annual Picture Your Dog with Santa event, which is a fundraiser for the Geauga County Dog Shelter, will be held at Cold Nose Companions, 12531 GAR Hwy., Chardon. For a minimum $5 donation, Cold Nose Companions will take digital photos of families with their dogs posed with Santa. Photos will be emailed to each participant within a week after the event.

All donations go entirely to support the care and adoption of the homeless dogs at the shelter on Merritt Road in Chardon.

No preregistration is required. Family activities and light refreshments will be offered. People are also encouraged to drop off non-cash donations for the shelter.

Community Christmas Party

Dec. 4, 4-6 p.m.

Russell Township Historical Society is sponsoring a community Christmas party at the town hall located at the corner of routes 306 and 87.

Enjoy Girl Scouts caroling, refreshments, holiday music by pianist Sara Wolfley and holiday music by the Geauga County Fair Band. Santa will arrive with gifts for all little girls and boys, and the greens will be lit.

Dining Around Town

Dec. 7, 6:30 p.m.

Claridon Cookie Walk

Dec. 10, 9-11 a.m.

Claridon Congregational Church will hold its 17th annual cookie walk at the church located at the intersection of Mayfield and Claridon-Troy roads. A wide assortment of cookies and candies will be offered at $7 per pound; boxes provided. The church is handicapped accessible.

Christmas Baskets

Dec. 10, 9 a.m.

The Auburn Firedevils will be putting Christmas baskets together at the Auburn Fire Department, 10950 E. Washington St. in Auburn Township. The baskets are given to Auburn Township residents who are elderly and live alone, individuals with a serious illness or individuals experiencing a death in the immediate family this year. The baskets consist of fruit, candy, cookies, snacks and a card with the names of people and organizations that donate and participate.

Red Kettle Bell Ringing

Dec. 10 and 17

The Salvation Army Red Kettles will be out in the coming weeks with volunteers from Rotary Clubs of Burton-Middlefield, Chagrin Valley, Chardon and Chesterland as well as Interact Clubs from Chardon, Kenston and West Geauga high schools. All donations placed in Geauga County’s Red Kettles remain in Geauga County to help neighbors with emergency assistance such as home heating costs, rent, gas cards to get to work and children’s school supplies.

Look for the bell ringers at local Giant Eagle, Chardon and Middlefield Wal-Mart’s, Chagrin Starbucks and the Bainbridge Drug Mart donations big and small make an impact in our community. New this year is the opportunity to donate to an online Geauga Red Kettle.

WomenSafe Christmas Tea

Dec. 11, 1:30 p.m.

Friends of WomenSafe annual Christmas Tea will be held in the banquet room at St. Mary’s Church, 401 North Street in Chardon.  Hear Charlene Connors of Women In History present a first person history of the life of American novelist Louisa May Alcott.

Doors open at 1 p.m. Tickets for the lavish gift raffle will be on sale. The three-course tea service begins at 1:30 p.m., catered by UpScale Eats.

Cardinaires Christmas Concert

Dec. 13, 12-1:30 p.m.

The annual Cardinaires Christmas concert and luncheon will be held at Mary Yoder’s Amish Kitchen in Middlefield.

Cost is $20 a person, which can be paid by cash or check at the door. Make checks payable to Middlefield Chamber of Commerce.

Czech Christmas Bread Sale

DTJ Taborville is selling the traditional Czech Christmas bread by order only. Vanocka, or houska, is a sweet dough with golden raisins and almonds baked into a braided loaf.

Cost is $7 for a two pound loaf. Orders must be placed by Dec. 14 and can be picked up Dec. 18 at DTJ Taborville, 9850 North Blvd. in Auburn Township. Call 440-543-8494 to place orders.
