Rescue Village will be launching its speaker series with hometown hero and founder of “One Million Acts of Kindness,” Bob Votruba and his Boston terrier Bogart.

Rescue Village will be launching its speaker series with hometown hero and founder of “One Million Acts of Kindness,” Bob Votruba and his Boston terrier Bogart. The duo will discuss Bob’s heart-felt work of inspiring the world to make compassionate choices.

The first installment of the Rescue Village Speaker Series is a free event, but seats are guaranteed by registering at: bit.ly/onemillionacts. All ages are welcome to join. Light refreshments, including ice cream, will be provided.

Rock and Rummage Sale

June 22-24

Come one, come all to the Geauga County Democratic Women’s Caucus “Rock and Rummage” sale at Democratic Headquarters located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury.

Hours are Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a pop-up record store with many 78 and 45 records available.

Gates Mills Garden Tour

June 23 & 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Gates Mills Garden Club is sponsoring its biennial garden tour of private, exclusive gardens within the village. Attendees can also browse through vendor displays featuring a wide variety of unique gardening-related items for sale.

Pick up tickets the day of the tour(s) beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Southwick House, 7580 Old Mill Road, Gates Mills.

Legion Scholarship Awards

Burton-Middlefield American Legion will hold its commander’s reception and scholarship awards program at the Atwood-Mauck Post 459 on Goodwin Street in Burton. Open to family members and guests only.

OPERS Retirees Meet

June 28, 11 a.m.

The Geauga County Public Employee Retirees, Inc. Chapter 86 (PERI 86), an organization that supports the retirement system and benefits, meets on the fourth Wednesday every other month in the banquet room at St. Mary’s Church, 401 North St., in Chardon. The cost is $12 per meeting, which covers the luncheon and the use of the facility.

Speakers at June’s meeting will be Meredith Ashkettle and Mary Sundstrand of Geauga & Lake Habitat for Humanity.

Y Team Challenge Kickoff

June 28, 6 p.m.

The community is invited to the Geauga YMCA Team Challenge kickoff event at the Geauga Family YMCA, 12460 Bass Lake Road in Chardon. Join to kick off the free monthlong event where team members compete against others in the community while raising money and improving one’s health at the same time.

Earn points for the team every time one visits the Y, attends a group class, donates or participates in each Wednesday’s designated theme of the week.

Food Pantry Open

June 30, 10 a.m. to noon

The Food Pantry at Chester Christian Center Church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone who is in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

Chester Christian Center is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Free Fresh Produce

July 1, 9-11 a.m.

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway. Cleveland FoodBank provides this service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Distributions are the first Saturday of the month through November, excluding September.

Grace Lutheran Barbecue

July 4

Join for a 4th of July celebration on Thompson Square. Grace Lutheran Church will serve chicken dinners for $10 each, pulled pork dinners for $7 each and pulled pork sandwiches for $5. Service starts after the parade ends. The parade starts at 11 a.m.

Pioneer School

July 10-14

The Geauga County Historical Society will host its 45th annual Pioneer School on the grounds of Century Village Museum in Burton. Campers ages 8-12 will have the opportunity to learn the traditions, activities and culture of the early settlers of Geauga County and participate in a wide-array of pioneer activities.

A limited number of spaces remain. Cost is $95 per child for Society members and $115 for nonmembers. Memberships may be purchased with registration. To register, call Century Village Museum at 440-834-1492.

Munson Community Day Picnic

July 15, noon

Munson Township’s annual Community Day Picnic will be held, rain or shine, at the town hall, 12210 Auburn Road. A fun day is planned for the entire family with a light picnic lunch, food vendors, music, Euclid Beach Rocket Car rides, rock climbing wall, raffles, games and activities.

Lake Health Auxiliary Fundraising Sale

July 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lake Health Auxiliary is hosting a large summer gift shop sale to benefit the auxiliary. Sales held in the lobby at TriPoint Medical Center, 7590 Auburn Road, Concord and West Medical Center, 36000 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.

Divine Word Rummage Sale

Divine Word Church is holding a rummage sale at 8100 Eagle Road in Kirtland. Sale takes place July 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early birds welcome July 19 from 6-8 p.m. for a $25 donation at the door. It’s a Baby Life Run

July 23

LIFE Runners International is sponsoring a 5K/10K LIFE run and 1-mile walk to support Birthright Geauga. The race begins from the Birthright Geauga plaza parking lot located at 209 Center St., Chardon.

Flea Market Vendors Wanted

Auburn Community Church, 11076 Washington St., is hosting an outdoor flea market Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 12.

Vendors and individuals wanting to have a garage sale are encouraged to participate. Spaces are 25 feet wide and deep enough for tables as well as two standard-sized vehicles. Vendors must furnish their tables and chairs and to clean out the site at end of sale. Cost is $25 per space.

Couples Golf Date Change

Aug. 6

Hemlock Springs Golf Club, 4654 Cork Cold Springs Road, Geneva, has changed the date of its couples golf outing from June 25 to Aug. 6. Arrive at course no later than 1 p.m. for 1:30 shotgun start.

Format is man/woman nine holes alternate shot on front nine and scramble on the back nine with two couples per tee. Event includes floating green, skill shots, mystery hole and more.

Cost is $70 per couple and includes golf, cart and prizes and picnic dinner, beer and pop after the round. Call the pro shop at 440-466-4044.

Greens for the Greenhouse

Aug. 14

Lyndhurst Lumber will host the first annual Friends of WomenSafe golf outing, “Greens for the Greenhouse” at Fowlers Mill Golf Course, 13095 Rockhaven Road in Chester Township. The scramble begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Cost is $100 golfers and includes a light breakfast, driving range privileges, soft drinks and/or beer throughout the day, hole games, 50/50 raffle, prizes, lunch and appetizers at the end of the day.

Vendors Sought for Arts Fair

Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Auburn Firedevils, auxiliary to the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, is hosting its sixth annual arts, crafts and consultants fair at Adams Halls, 11455 Washington St., Auburn Township.

The group is seeking vendors for the event. Tables are $25 each. Tables and chairs are provided. There is plenty of parking for vendors and shoppers alike at the facility.

Fall Fish Sale Begins

Sept. 21

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual fall fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, yellow perch, bluegill/sunfish mix, channel catfish, white amurs and fathead minnows. Pond safety kits and farm pond management books are also available.

Order deadline is Sept. 15. Order forms are available by visiting www.geaugaswcd.com or calling 440-834-1122.

To guarantee orders, complete an order form and send with payment to Geauga SWCD, PO Box 410, Burton, OH 44021. Make checks payable to Geauga SWCD or contact the office to pay by credit card. All proceeds support the District’s education programs.
