Chardon VFW Post 6519 will host corn beef sandwiches with sauerkraut every Wednesday in August from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per sandwich or $7.50 with fries.

Free Fresh Produce

Aug. 5, 9-11 a.m.

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Distributions will continue the second Saturday of the month through November. There will be no distribution in September.

Auburn Flea Market

Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Auburn Community Church, 11076 Washington St., is hosting a flea market. Rain date is Aug. 12.

A wide variety of vendors are participating. Glitter tattoos and a modern version of the toy slime will be available.

Food and beverages will be available. The event is open to the public.

Civic Club Ox Roast

Aug. 5, 12:30-6 p.m.

The sixth annual Community Ox Roast sponsored by the Bainbridge Civic Club will be held at Centerville Mills Park, 8558 Crackel Road in Bainbridge. Proceeds benefit Bainbridge Area Food for Friends and the club’s Kenston High School Scholarship Fund.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, including a bounce house and carnival games for children, music, various Kenston organizations, police and fire department information booths and other surprises.

New this year is an exhibit of antique cars, including Ford Model A and T, old tractors and trucks. Owners of these types of vehicles are welcome to participate for free.

A fun run around the former campgrounds will start at noon. Register by 11:30 a.m. and receive meal and T-shirt.

Presale tickets for adult meals are $17 through Aug. 4. A child’s hot dog meal is $6. Tickets sold on Aug. 5 are $22.

Chardon Kicks Cancer

Aug. 5, 6-10 p.m.

Chardon High School boys and girls soccer teams are hosting a fundraiser at St. Mary Church Banquet Room in Chardon. One hundred percent of the proceeds will assist with the financial hardship for Chardon families battling cancer.

Event includes a Chinese auction, silent auction, 50/50 and more.  Bring food and beverages to share with friends. Alcohol is permitted. Desserts will be provided.

Geauga Dems Steaks Roast

Aug. 5, 6:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its annual steak roast at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Call for reservations.

Keynote speaker will be Charlie Gailey Brown, a twice elected state attorney general, Yale Law School graduate, Young Democrat of the Year and brother of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Additional parking is available on the far eastern side of the plaza.

Concert on Thompson Square

Aug. 8, 7-8:30 p.m.

The Thompson Township Summer Entertainment Committee presents Troubadours of Divine Bliss, an international recording duo from Louisville, Ky., featuring accordion, guitar, harmonies and more.

The concert is free; lawn chairs are recommended. Refreshments by donation – “It’s a Pie Party” – will be provided by the Thompson United Methodist Women. Donations will benefit the Red Tulip Project of Geauga.

In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Thompson United Methodist Church.

Concert In The Park

Aug. 9, 7-9 p.m.

The 34th summer concert series continues with the Don Wojtila Band at the gazebo in Chester Township Parkside Park.

The group of professional musicians plays a wide variety of musical selections and is well known in the Cleveland ethnic community for its polkas.

Free popcorn will be provided along with pop and water at nominal prices. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.

Raccoon Co. Music Festival

Aug. 12, 12-7 p.m.

The Raccoon County Music Festival will be held at the Century Village Museum, 14653 East Park St. in Burton. A wide variety of American and international music will be presented by more than 11 live performing artists and groups on two stages.

A workshop will be provided on ukulele. Bring along an instrument and take part in one or more jams taking place. Festival also includes kite flying demonstrations. Several historical buildings will be open on the grounds as well as the museum’s Crossroads Store.

Food and drink will be available. The day will end with a square dance led by a caller.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.

Barbecue Chicken Dinner

Newbury American Legion and Auxiliary Post 663 is hosting a Texas smoked chicken barbecue in the Hunter Pavilion behind the Post located at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township. Tickets are $15 at the door or $12 advance sale.

Geauga County Tea Party

Aug. 15, 6:30 p.m.

Michael Goldstein, the Ohio director of Proclaiming Justice to the Nations (PJTN.org), a Christian pro-Israel organization, will address how American university sponsored Muslim clubs and student groups sometimes use threats and intimidation against Christians and Jews on campus. A lawyer and 30-year U.S. Navy veteran, he will speak about what his group is doing to alleviate the problem in Ohio and what the community can do to help.

The program takes place at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township.

CV Herb Society Meets

Aug. 18, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. After refreshments, conversation and a business meeting, Sandra Bontempo will present “Free Range Skin Care.”

Scrap Tire Collection

Aug. 19, 9 a.m. to noon

Russell Township will host its annual scrap tire collection event at the township road garage, 15625 Chillicothe Road.

A maximum of eight tires per household will be accepted. Tires must be dry and off rims. Passenger tires and light truck tires only.

Limited to Russell Township residents only. No business or commercial drop off.

Auburn Benefit Car Show

Aug. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Auburn Benefit Car Show will take place at 9835 E. Washington St., Auburn Township and will feature hundreds of vintage and late-model vehicles, along with live DJ performance by DJ Xtrav’s Luke Jourdian.

Children’s activities will include animal balloons, free snow cones and face painting. There will also be a variety of prizes and giveaways.

All proceeds will benefit the National MS Society.

HomeGrown Geauga

Tickets are now on sale for Geauga Growth Partnership’s fifth annual HomeGrown Geauga fundraising event at ASM International in Russell Township.

The evening features fine food by signature chefs, open bar, entertainment, music by No Moss, silent auction, raffles and a virtual reality journey.

Next Step Reverse Raffle

Aug. 19, 7-11 p.m.

The third annual Next Step Reverse Raffle will be held in the Bond Building at the Geauga County Historical Society, 14653 E. Park St. in Burton. Tickets are $60 per person and include dinner, wine, beer, cash bar and music. Side boards available and grand prize is $3,000. There are only 200 tickets being sold.

Sponsored by Geauga Kiwanis Clubs, proceeds benefit Next Step, a community-based program providing housing in Middlefield and case management services for Geauga County adults 18-24 who are homeless and at risk.

Chicken Dinner and Car Show

Aug. 20, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  1. Edward and Lucy Parish will host the ninth annual Chicken Dinner and Car Show, rain or shine, at 16150 Center St. in Parkman. Event features classic cars and trucks, Chinese auction, raffles, bingo, DJ Cory and family horse racing.

Tickets for the barbecue chicken dinner are $11 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.

Donation of $10 requested for car show entries. Goodie bags and dash plaques given to first 100 cars. Three prizes will be awarded along with a $200 gas card, compliments of Best Funeral Home. Drawing at 4 p.m. Winner must be present. Door prizes awarded every 15 minutes.

Golf Outing

Aug. 24

Chardon United Methodist Church is hosting a golf outing to benefit the 2018 mission team from the church to Guatemala with Orphan Resources International. The scramble will be held rain or shine at St. Denis Golf Club, 10660 Chardon Road in Chardon. Registration is at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Fee is $110 per person, or $400 per foursome, and includes greens fees, cart, lunch at turn, fajita dinner bar and desserts. Cash bar will be available. Dinner only tickets are $35.

Munson Twp. Flea Market

Sept. 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Munson Township’s annual indoor/outdoor flea market will be held at the Munson Town Hall, the fire station bay and outside town hall located 12210 Auburn Road, Chardon.

Vendor spaces are $20 each and sell out quickly. Admittance fee for shoppers is $1.

Family Pride Comedy Night

Stand Up for Family Pride Comedy Night takes place at Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon.

A fundraiser for Family Pride, a local nonprofit that provides counseling and support services for children and families in Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties, the event features Liz Russo and a second comedian, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, raffle and Chinese auction.

Auburn FD Clam Bake

Sept. 9, 6-8:30 p.m.

The Auburn Fire Department is hosting its annual clambake and Chinese auction at the newly renovated fire station.

Regular bake dinner costs $30 and includes a dozen clams, half a barbecue chicken, corn, yams, coleslaw, roll and beverages. Extra clams will be available for $10 per dozen, as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids.

There will also be entertainment and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the fire department. The Auburn Firedevils will have cookbooks available.
