Chardon Toastmasters will hold an open house in the Western Reserve Land Conservancy office, 102-C East Park St. in Chardon. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

Toastmasters offers a proven learn-at-your-own pace continuing education program that has helped thousands of people worldwide improve their professional and personal lives.

Food Pantry Open

Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to noon

The Food Pantry at Chester Christian Center Church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone in need of food; one does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Chili Bash Fundraiser

Oct. 28, 12–6 p.m.

St. Helen Unicycle Drill Team parents will be hosting a chili cook-off and Chinese auction fundraiser at the Hungarian Cultural Center 12027 Abbott Road, Hiram. Special guest entertainment will be classic rock band Tracer.

Tickets at the door are $18 each or $34 per couple. Proceeds to help fund a trip to Florida’s Citrus Parade.

Hambden PTO Trunk or Treat

Oct. 28, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Hambden Elementary PTO will hold their annual trunk or treat event in the front parking lot of the Hambden Township park.

Peace Lutheran Trunk or Treat

Oct. 28, 2-4 p.m.

Peace Lutheran Church is hosting a trunk or treat Halloween safe event in the lower parking lot and pavilion at the church located at 12686 Bass Lake Road in Munson Township. There will be treats given from a circle of trunks and games, plus donuts and cider in the pavilion.

Audubon Visits Bluffs

Oct. 29, 8 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will start at Lake Metroparks Lake Erie Bluffs in Perry and venture out to Erie Bluffs State Park in Pennsylvania, a new destination for the local chapter of National Audubon Society.

Meet at the Lane Road parking lot at 8 a.m. at Lake Erie Bluffs, 3301 Lane Road. Birders will walk the trails above the lakeshore in search of resident birds, then climb the 50-foot tower to get great views of Lake Erie. The next stop will be Erie Bluffs State Park, 12 miles west of Erie, Pa.

Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if available. Dress for windy weather.

Meet the Candidates

Nov. 1, 7-8:30 p.m.

The Cardinal Local School District, in conjunction with Cardinal High School government classes will host a Meet the Candidates night in the high school gym.

Candidates running for election in Middlefield Township, village, school board, Huntsburg and Parkman will participate in the forum. Candidates will give a two-minute introductory statement and will also participate in a question and answer session with the audience.

The event is free and open to the public.

GEL Breakfast

Nov. 3, 7:30-9 a.m.

Join for a local government forum at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast at KSU Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton.

The forum features Geauga County Commissioner Tim Lennon, City of Chardon Mayor, Nancy McArthur, South Russell Mayor, Bill Koons, Bainbridge Township Trustee Kristina O’Brien and Claridon Township Trustee Roger Miller.

Each government official will present information about challenges and opportunities that are of interest to businesses, residents and/or the Geauga County community at large followed by a question and answer session.

Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the presentation at 8 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated.

G.E.L. Breakfasts are sponsored by Geauga Growth Partnership and Kent State University at Geauga.

Holiday Boutique

Bainbridge Women’s Club will host its 40th annual holiday boutique at Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. Enjoy crafts, a bake sale, light lunch and raffle. Admission is free.

Agape Autumn Auction

Nov. 4, 4 p.m.

Agape Christian Academy will host its 13th annual Autumn Auction at Mespo Expo Center. Tickets are $15 per person and include a family style chicken, pot roast and mashed potato dinner with dessert along with access to the Chinese, silent and live auctions. Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Several hundred items will be available.

DTJ Chicken and Duck Dinner

Nov. 5, 12-2 p.m.

DTJ Taborville is hosting its final chicken and duck dinner of the year at 9850 North Blvd. in Chagrin Falls. Cost is $12.50 for an adult dinner and $6.50 for a children’s chicken dinner. A half duck dinner is $17.50.

Veterans Recognition Lunch

Nov. 8, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A veterans recognition lunch and pinning ceremony by the Burton American Legion Color Guard will be held in the banquet room of Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon.

All veterans eat free, however, must register. Cost is $15 for non-veterans.

Tuskegee Airman Presentation

Nov. 8, noon

Join for a presentation featuring Harold H. Brown, Tuskegee Airman and World War II pilot and author Marsha Bordner as they discuss the memoir “Keep Your Airspeed Up: The Story of a Tuskegee Airman” in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Art Center at Lakeland Community College. Books will be available for sale and signing for $35 at the event.

Veterans Day Events

Nov. 9-11

The Atwood-Mauck American Legion Post 459 will participate in a Veterans Day program at Berkshire Elementary School on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. and at Newbury Elementary School on Nov. 10 from 9-10 a.m. in the school auditorium.

Then, on Nov. 11 from 4:30-7 p.m., Post 459 will host an open house and soup and chili dinner at the legion home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

Housing Coalition Chili Cook-Off

Nov. 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Housing Coalition is holding its fifth annual fundraiser at Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Proceeds will be distributed to local agencies to help homeless and at-risk individuals and families in Geauga County.

Numerous Geauga County agencies will have their special chili recipes for attendees to taste and judge. The event also includes a silent auction, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle and many door prizes, along with information about local agencies and services.

Tickets are $10, which includes appetizers, chili tasting, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Veterans Day Dinner

Chardon VFW Post 6519 is hosting a Veterans Day Dinner at the post located at 752 Water St.
