A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items, toys, books and seasonal decorations will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Soup’s On With Next Step

Feb. 15, 6-9 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Women’s Caucus will host “Soup’s On! Warm Up With Next Step” at the Geauga Democratic Party Headquarters and Social Hall, 12420 Kinsman Road in Newbury.

At 7 p.m., there will a presentation by Andrea Pollock, director of Next Step.

Several soups, salads and breads will be served. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Collections for Next Step will be accepted. Items needed include: paper products, snack foods, socks, body wash and gift cards for fast food places.

100 Women of East Geauga

Feb. 15, 6:15 p.m.

100 Women of East Geauga is a group of area women who come together and collectively support local charities. Meetings are held four times per year at Geauga County Job and Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon. CV Herb Society Meets

Feb. 16, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. Following refreshments and a business meeting, the group will dream of the upcoming gardening season by watching herb gardening videos.

Upcoming VFW Post 9678 Events

Middlefield VFW 9678 is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for

Veterans in Need on Feb. 16 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the post located at 16013 E. High St. Cost is $8 at the door or $7 presale. For more information, call the post at 440-632-1257.

Then, on March 10 at 9 a.m., the post is hosting a Seneca Allegany Casino and game bus trip. Incentives are $25 slot and $5 food. The trip is a fundraiser for Veterans in Need. Cost is $35. For reservations and information, call Kathy at 440-228-7248.

Family Movie Night

Feb. 16, 6:30 p.m.

Join First United Methodist Church for family movie night at the church located at 14999 South State Ave. in Middlefield.

There is no charge for the movie, popcorn or beverages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Dinner

Claridon Community Helps is hosting a pork dinner on at Claridon Congregational Church. Donations are accepted, but not expected. For more information, call 440-321-5596.

Songbirds of Ohio

Feb. 20, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will offer a free program on Ohio’s breeding songbirds at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center in Kirtland. Speaker is Gary Meszaros, a nature photographer for over 40 years. Everyone is welcome to attend. Programs cancelled due to weather will be announced on the iAlert system.

Good Samaritan Dinner

Feb. 21, 5-6:30 p.m.

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be at the church in Burton. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

Homemade meal consists of meat, side, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeouts is available; call 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

Food Distribution

Feb. 24, 9-11 a.m.

The Cleveland Food Bank will be distributing food to people in need at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Audubon Visits Amish Country

Feb. 24, 9 a.m.

Join Blackbrook Audubon to visit Amish country in search of winter birds in the farm fields of Geauga County. Meet at the north entrance to Walter C. Best Preserve, 11620 Ravenna Road in Chardon. Participants will carpool or caravan from to the Hayes Road area near Middlefield.

Dress for the weather, bring binoculars and a spotting scope if available. After a morning of birding, lunch will be at Mary Yoder’s Amish Kitchen in Middlefield.

Farmers’ Market Vendor Meeting

Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market will be holding a meeting for new and current members in the Patterson Center located in the Geauga County Extension Building at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton.

The meeting is open to anyone considering the market this year. Light snacks will be provided. Bring business cards and samples for other vendors to try. Help us make this a great year for everyone!

GCBDD Hosts Community Carnival

March 3, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD) is hosting its third annual community carnival at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township.

The free event is open to all. Enjoy free food, games and a chance to win prizes.

Chili Cook-Off

March 3, 4-7 p.m.

Montville Firefighters Association is hosting a chili cook-off at Montville Community Center. There will be judged categories and popular vote. Cost is $10 for 10 sample cups. Beverage, crackers and dessert are included.

There is no entry fee. To enter, provide a minimum of 8 quarts of chili.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual spring fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds.
