Audubon Visits Amish Country

Feb. 24, 9 a.m.

Join Blackbrook Audubon to visit Amish country in search of winter birds in the farm fields of Geauga County. Meet at the north entrance to Walter C. Best Preserve, 11620 Ravenna Road in Chardon. Participants will carpool or caravan from to the Hayes Road area near Middlefield.

Dress for the weather, bring binoculars and a spotting scope if available. After a morning of birding, lunch will be at Mary Yoder’s Amish Kitchen in Middlefield.

Birders are also welcome to accompany Blackbrook on its monthly IBA walk at Chagrin River Park on Feb. 25. The one-mile walk begins 8 a.m. at the Reeves Road parking lot.

OPERS Retirees Meet

The Geauga County Public Employee Retirees, Inc. (PERI) 86 will meet at St. Mary’s Church, 401 North St., in Chardon. Join for a program with Roger Peterson, director of Geauga County Emergency Management System.

GCBDD Hosts Community Carnival

March 3, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD) is hosting its third annual community carnival at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township.

The free event is open to all. Enjoy free food, games and a chance to win prizes.

Chardon Kiwanis Maple Sales

The Chardon Area Kiwanis Club announces the return of maple syrup and maple sugar sales at the Heritage House opening on Chardon Square on Tapping Sunday, March 4 and each following Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Heritage House will be also be open for maple sales March 17 for the Chardon High School musical and March 31 for the traditional Easter egg hunt. During the Maple Festival April 26-29, maple sales will occur in both the Heritage House and festival tent located on Short Court.

All funds raised through the sale support the scholarships that the club awards to Chardon area students and various other projects that it sponsors each year.

In addition to the Kiwanis maple sales, the Stir Booth will be open for visitors to enjoy every Sunday prior to the festival from 12-4 p.m.

Fashion Show Extravaganza

Plans are underway for the West Geauga After Prom 21st annual Prom Fashion Show Extravaganza taking place March 10 at West Geauga Middle School.

Gift basket raffle donations are needed. All businesses that provide monetary, product, gift certificate or in kind donations will be prominently displayed.

Vendors are welcome; reservations are being accepted for 10×10-foot booths. Information on tickets and forms are available at wgafterprom.com.

Geauga Dems Go Green

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its annual St. Patrick’s dinner at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury.

Spring Tree Sale

Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is holding its spring tree sale at the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton. The sale offers a streamlined selection of both bareroot seedlings and 1-3 gallon container trees and shrubs. Rain barrels and compost tumblers are also available.
