The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. Bring a mug for refreshments. Following a short business meeting, the group will explore Lowe’s Greenhouse and discover new plants that will hot this coming season.

St. Patrick’s Dinner & Reverse Raffle
March 17, 5 p.m.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a dinner and reverse raffle at St. Patrick Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Cost is $30 for appetizers, traditional corned beef dinner and one main board ticket. Dinner served at 6 p.m.
Main board prize is $1,250. Side boards are available. Beer and wine available for purchase. Drawing begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
Middlefield VFW 9678 Events
Middlefield VFW Post 9678 will host a St. Patrick’s Day open house special March 17 from 5-7 p.m. Enjoy corned beef sandwiches for $7 and an Irish costume contest at 7 p.m. Entrance fee of $10 for the costume contest benefits Veterans In Need; winner takes 40 percent. Irish drinks will be available at the open cash bar.
Post meeting for veteran members is at 7 p.m. March 19. New members are welcome.
March is open enrollment. Guest membership is $25; all community members are welcome. All veterans regardless of wartime status are welcome as guest members with all fees waived.

Audubon Strolls Diverse Wetland
March 18, 9 a.m.
Blackbrook Audubon will meet at Columbia Reservation, 25145 Royalton Road, Columbia Station in Lorain Metropark. Birders will look for resident and migrating waterfowl, as well as resident raptors and songbirds. Dress for the weather, bring binoculars and a spotting scope, if available.

Birders are also welcome to accompany Blackbrook on its monthly IBA walk at Chagrin River Park on March 25. The one-mile walk begins 8 a.m. at the Reeves Road parking lot.
Audubon Recounts Ohio’s Early Natural History
March 20, 7 p.m.
Blackbrook Audubon will offer a free program at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center in Kirtland. Dr. Joe Hannibal will share tales of the explorations by Prince Maximilian of Wied, a province in Germany.
Dr. Hannibal is also an author, as well as a geologist and curator of invertebrate paleontology at Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Good Samaritan Dinner
March 21, 5-6:30 p.m.
The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be held at the church on the square in Burton. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.
Homemade meal consists of corned beef, cabbage, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available; call 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will go to meet emergency needs of local families.

Geauga Dems Address Right to Work

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its monthly spaghetti dinner served with a hot topic at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. The after dinner topic of discussion will be “Right to Work Law.”

Chardon Twp. Easter Egg Hunt

The fourth annual Chardon Township Easter egg hunt will take place at Chardon Township Park, 9949 Auburn Road. The hunt is for children walking age to 10 years old.
Bring a basket or bag. There will be prizes for each age group and an appearance by the Easter bunny.
DTJ Chicken Paprikash Dinner

Friends of WomenSafe is hosting Purses & Pastries at Bainbridge Town Hall, 8353 Bainbridge Road. Guests must bring a new or gently used purse with an inexpensive, wrapped white elephant gift inside for the purse exchange.

Garrettsville Idol Auditions
April 22, 1 p.m.
Open-call auditions for Garrettsville Idol, the grand finale event that closes out SummerFest Festival, will be held at the Iva Walker Auditorium in James A. Garfield School. Use the event entrance.
Adults will compete for a $1,000 cash prize; youth and teens will each compete for $500. Prizes will be awarded to the winner at the finals held during SummerFest, which is held every year on the fourth weekend in June.
Contestants are asked to come prepared to sing an entire song without musical accompaniment. Closed auditions will be held in three age categories: youth ages 8-12 and teens ages 13-17 at 1 p.m. and adults 18 and older at 2 p.m. Arrive 15 minutes early to fill out a biography sheet for the program.
One must be available April 22, May 20 and June 24 to be eligible to audition.
