Many of local and state candidates will be at the tent on Saturday night after 5 p.m. for a meet and greet. Handouts on all the candidates and issues will be available.
Food Pantry Open
Aug. 31, 10 a.m. to noon
The food pantry at Chester Christian Center will be open to anyone in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.
The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.
Newbury High School Reunion
Aug. 31 – Sept. 1
Newbury High School Class of 1968 will gather for a 50th reunion celebration Friday from 1-4 p.m. at Sharon James Cellars, 11303 Kinsman Road.
On Saturday, there will be a school tour at 1 p.m. and the all Newbury alumni potluck dinner at The Rookery, 10110 Cedar Road. Nearly two thirds of the class is planning to attend with classmates coming from as far away as Colorado, Florida and Arizona.
Great Geauga County Fair 4-H 5K
Sept. 2, 8 a.m.
Geauga Engineering and Robotics (GEAR) 4-H Club is hosting its inaugural 5K and one-mile fun walk at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. followed by the walk at 8:05 a.m.
Registration is $25 by Sept. 1 or $30 the day of the race. Fee includes two free admissions to the fair, live chip timing, medals and two Cleveland Indians tickets awarded for first three places in each age group for both men and women.
Packet pickup is at Patterson Fruit Farm on Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or day of race.

Dorothy’s Porch Giveaway

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items and toys will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.
St. Mark Rummage Sale
Sept. 6-8
St. Mark Lutheran Church will hold its annual rummage sale at the church located at 11900 Chillicothe in Chester Township.
Hours are Thursday, 4-7 p.m., with a $5 admission charge; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with special Saturday prices.

GEL Breakfast

Mr. Eric Mansfield, executive director university media relations at Kent State University, will present “Quicksand: What the military, media and higher education can and should learn from each other in an age of 24/7 communications” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (GEL) breakfast at Kent State University at Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.
Networking and light breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the presentation from 8-9 a.m. Free and open to the public. Students are welcome. Registration is appreciated.

Operation Horses And Heroes
Operation Horses and Heroes will be hosting a free resiliency program for veterans at the Hambden Hills Stables on GAR Highway Sept. 7-9.
Donations of meals to feed the veterans and volunteers to help with serving the program participants and volunteers are needed.

Peddle for a Vet
Sept. 8
Middlefield VFW Post 9678 is hosting a bicycle ride fundraiser for Veterans in Need. Registration is 7:30-9 a.m. at the post located at 16013 E. High St., Middlefield. The ride is 20 miles or up to the rider.
Snacks and drinks will be provided at Mountain Run Station. A light lunch will be provided at the post from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Munson Twp. Flea Market

Munson Township’s annual flea market featuring antiques, garage sale items and crafts will be held at Munson Township Park, 12641 Bass Lake Road.

Poor Man’s Raffle

The Chesterland Lions Club will host its annual Poor Man’s Raffle at SNPJ Hall, 10946 Heath Road, Kirtland. Join for a night of dinner, dancing and music.
Tickets are $60 per couple, or $40 for a single, and include a drawing in the $500 prize raffle as well as a roast beef and pork dinner, beer, wine and side boards.

Auburn FD Clambake

The Auburn Fire Department is hosting its annual clambake and Chinese auction at the fire station located at 10950 Washington St. in Auburn Township.
Regular bake dinner costs $30 and includes a dozen clams, half a barbecue chicken, corn, yams, coleslaw, roll, soda and beer. Extra clams will be available for $10 per dozen, as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids.
There will also be live entertainment and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the fire department. The Auburn Firedevils will have cookbooks available.

Celebration on the Chagrin

Celebrate 50 years of Ohio’s Scenic Rivers Program at Bass Lake Preserve. Local resource professionals will be leading a variety of family-friendly aquatic adventures including stream exploration, canoeing, strolls through Spring Brook Sanctuary and close encounters with Chagrin River critters.
The celebration is a collaboration with Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), ODNR Division of Parks & Watercraft, Scenic Rivers Program and other conservation partners.

Fall Fish Sale Begins

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual fall fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, yellow perch, bluegill/sunfish mix, channel catfish, white amurs and fathead minnows. Pond safety kits and farm pond management books are also available.
