Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals to seniors who are alone for the holidays.

Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals to seniors who are alone for the holidays.

Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 and Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Volunteers pick up the holiday meal from the Chardon Senior Center, drive it to the senior’s home and spend some time visiting.

All meals are delivered from the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon.

GEL Breakfast

Nov. 2; 7:30-9 a.m.

Mr. Blake Andres, executive director, DDC Clinic, will be the speaker at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (GEL) Breakfast at Kent State University at Geauga 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.

Learn how DDC Clinic’s local community commitment has global impact through a unique collaboration with the Geauga Amish community that is changing medicine for everyone.

Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the presentation from 8-9 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated.

G.E.L. Breakfasts are a collaborative partnership between Kent State University at Geauga and Geauga Growth Partnership.

Christmas Gathering

Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Start the holiday shopping season at the Chesterland Historical Village where the annual Christmas Gathering Boutique and Tea takes place in the 1842 Tanner House.

Dressed in her holiday finery, each room has unique shopping available while the front parlour features an opportunity to sit and partake of tea and sweets.

A special gift bag awaits guests who purchased Barn Bonds.

The village is located on the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads in Chester Township.

Bainbridge Women’s Club will host its 41st annual holiday boutique at Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. Admission is free. Enjoy crafts, a bake sale, light lunch and raffle.

Free Fresh Produce

Nov. 3, 9-11 a.m.

Newbury United Community Church will host its final fresh produce giveaway for the year at the church located at 14961 Auburn Road. Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Metzenbaum Quilt & Craft Auction

Nov. 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Families and Friends of Metzenbaum Center are sponsoring the annual Amish quilt and craft auction at the center located at 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Event features more than 25 handmade quilts, wreaths, Amish furniture, toys and more. A silent auction and cash and carry holiday shop will round out the day’s activities.

Kiwanis of West Geauga will serve a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $4.50 for children 6-11 years and free to children under 6.

A hot lunch, refreshments and Amish baked goods will also be available.

Proceeds benefit the clients of Metzenbaum Center, Geauga CountyBoard of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD). Parking is free.

Agape Autumn Auction

Nov. 3, 4 p.m.

Agape Christian Academy will host its 13th annual Autumn Auction at Mespo Expo Center. Tickets are $15 per person and include a family style chicken, pot roast and mashed potato dinner with dessert along with access to the Chinese, silent and live auctions. Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Several hundred items will be available.

Taste of Geauga

Nov. 3, 6-8 p.m.

Taste of Geauga will be held in the new lodge at Claridon Woodlands Park, 11383 Claridon Troy Road in Claridon Township. The cost is $20 per person.

Local restaurants, caterers and food establishments will be sharing samples of their favorite menu selections. Guests will be invited to vote on the Best Bite award.

Annual Turkey Dinner       

Nov. 6, 4:30-7 p.m.

The Women’s Fellowship of Parkman Congregational Church is preparing and serving their annual Election Day turkey dinner with all the trimmings at the church located at 18265 Madison Road.

Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 5-11 and free for preschoolers. Adult size takeout is available.

Estate Planning Seminar

Nov. 7, 6 p.m.

DeJohn Funeral Homes welcomes the community to a free discussion on responsible estate planning with Matt Deliberato, accredited VA attorney and estate planning specialist. He will present “Responsible Estate Planning: Guiding Your Future to Protect the Ones You Love” at DeJohn Funeral Homes & Celebrations Center in Chester Township.

The discussion will focus on wills, powers of attorney, trusts, Medicaid and VA burial benefits.

Veterans Day Events

Nov. 8-12

The Atwood-Mauck American Legion Post 459 will participate in the annual Veterans Day program at Berkshire Elementary School on Nov. 8 at 8:30 a.m. and Ledgemont Elementary School on Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Then, on Nov. 11 from 4:30-7 p.m., Post 459 will host an open house and soup and chili dinner for veterans an families at the legion home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

The post will participate in the Cardinal School veterans program in Middlefield at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 12 and Newbury Elementary School auditorium at 8:30 a.m.

Gift Of Magi Boutique

Nov. 9-10

A preview party for the annual Gift for the Magi holiday boutique will be held Nov. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. For adults only, the $5 admission includes preview of the boutique, music, hors d’oeuvres and wine.

The boutique runs Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features handcrafted items by more than 35 juried crafters and a raffle for a handcrafted Saint Nicholas quilt. Admission is free.

Join the Boutique Bounce on Nov. 10 by also shopping the Christmas Bazaar at Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland and boutique at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. Shoppers who visit the three boutiques will be eligible for one of three grand prizes. Begin the bounce at any of the churches and get the card stamped at each location.

Housing Coalition Chili Cook-Off

Nov. 9, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Housing Coalition is holding its sixth annual fundraiser at Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Proceeds will be distributed to local agencies to help homeless and at-risk individuals and families in Geauga County.

Numerous Geauga County agencies will have their special chili recipes for attendees to taste and judge. The event also includes a silent auction, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and door prizes, along with information about local agencies and services.

Tickets are $10, which includes appetizers, chili tasting, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Christmas Bazaar

Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Old South United Church of Christ, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland, is hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar. All items sold are made by church members, not vendors. There is no admission fee. The bazaar includes a luncheon, bake sale, rag rugs, quilt raffle and Attic Treasures.

Visitors can win a gift basket by joining in the Boutique Bounce by also visiting the boutiques at St. Mark Lutheran Church and St. Anselm Church.

Christmas Boutique

St. Anselm Women’s Guild Annual Christmas Boutique will be held at St. Anselm School, 13013 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. There will be handcrafted and unusual items for holiday shopping, as well as a snack bar, bake sale and prize raffle with many great prizes. Admission is $1.

Craft and Consultant Fair

Auburn Township Firedevils, an auxiliary support group for the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, is hosting its annual crafts and consultant fair at Adams Halls, 11455 Washington St., Auburn Township.

Harvest Dinner Dance

Nov. 10, 6 p.m.

Knights of Columbus – Geauga Council is hosting a harvest dinner dance with music by Ron Papaleo in the St. Helen’s School gym in Newbury Township.

Event includes a 50/50 raffle, $1 and $2 side boards and a roast pork and sauerkraut dinner; beer and soda are extra. Wine and spirits are BYOB.

Chesterland History Talk

Nov. 10, 7 p.m.

Local historian Sylvia Wiggins, of the Chesterland Historical Society, will speak at Chesterland Baptist Church, 12670 Chillicothe Road. She will talk about the interesting people who lived in Chester Township in the past, as well as how the township has developed through the years. The program marks the beginning of the yearlong 2019 celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Chesterland Baptist Church. Garland Likins will also present history of the Chesterland Baptist Church.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony

Nov. 11, 11 a.m.

The American Legion, Chardon Post 167 and Chardon VFW Post 6519 are sponsoring a ceremony at the Chardon Courthouse on Chardon Square. The ceremony will include a color guard, rifle salute, a bugler playing Taps.

Special guest speaker is Lt. Col. Allen West, a highly decorated officer and combat veteran who is a well-known political commentator and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 22nd congressional district.

Operation Christmas Child

Join to fill shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items for the Samaritan’s Purse project during National Collection Week, Nov. 12-19. Maple Madness
