The Atwood-Mauck American Legion Post 459 will participate in the annual Veterans Day program at Berkshire Elementary School on Nov. 8 at 8:30 a.m. and Ledgemont Elementary School on Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Nov. 8-12

The Atwood-Mauck American Legion Post 459 will participate in the annual Veterans Day program at Berkshire Elementary School on Nov. 8 at 8:30 a.m. and Ledgemont Elementary School on Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Then, on Nov. 11 from 4:30-7 p.m., Post 459 will host an open house and soup and chili dinner for veterans and families at the legion home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

The post will participate in the Cardinal School veterans program in Middlefield at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 12 and Newbury Elementary School auditorium at 8:30 a.m.

Gift Of Magi Boutique

Nov. 9-10

A preview party for the annual Gift for the Magi holiday boutique will be held Nov. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. For adults only, the $5 admission includes preview of the boutique, music, hors d’oeuvres and wine.

The boutique runs Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features handcrafted items by more than 35 juried crafters and a raffle for a handcrafted Saint Nicholas quilt. Admission is free.

Join the Boutique Bounce on Nov. 10 by also shopping the Christmas Bazaar at Old South Church in Kirtland and boutique at St. Anselm Church in Chester Township. Shoppers who visit the three boutiques will be eligible for one of three grand prizes. Begin the bounce at any of the churches and get the card stamped at each location.

Housing Coalition Chili Cook-Off

Nov. 9, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Housing Coalition is holding its sixth annual fundraiser at Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township.

Numerous Geauga County agencies will have their special chili recipes for attendees to taste and judge. The event also includes a silent auction, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

Tickets are $10, which includes appetizers, chili tasting, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Christmas Bazaar

Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Old South United Church of Christ, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland, is hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar. All items sold are made by church members, not vendors. There is no admission fee. The bazaar includes a luncheon, bake sale, rag rugs, quilt raffle and Attic Treasures.

Visitors can win a gift basket by joining in the Boutique Bounce by also visiting the boutiques at St. Mark Lutheran Church and St. Anselm Church.

Christmas Boutique

Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
St. Anselm Women’s Guild Annual Christmas Boutique will be held at St. Anselm School, 13013 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. There will be handcrafted and unusual items for holiday shopping, as well as a snack bar, bake sale and prize raffle with many great prizes. Admission is $1.

Join the Boutique Bounce by also stopping at Old South Church in Kirtland and St. Mark Lutheran Church in Chester Township.

Veterans Pancake Breakfast

Nov. 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A veterans pancake breakfast to benefit the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Middlefield will be held at Burton Health Care Center, 14095 E. Center St. in Burton.

Veterans are free and $8 for non-service individuals.

Event includes a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction

Proceeds benefit to Veterans of Foreign Wars to help local vets in need.

Craft and Consultant Fair

Nov. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Auburn Township Firedevils, an auxiliary support group for the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, is hosting its annual crafts and consultant fair at Adams Hall, 11455 Washington St., Auburn Township.

Veterans Day Dinner

Nov. 10, 5-6:30 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 is hosting a chicken parmesan with pasta Veterans Day dinner at the post located at 752 Water St. Dinner is free to all veterans and a guest. Donations accepted.

Harvest Dinner Dance

Nov. 10, 6 p.m.

Knights of Columbus – Geauga Council is hosting a harvest dinner dance with music by Ron Papaleo in the St. Helen’s School gym in Newbury Township.

Event includes a 50/50 raffle, $1 and $2 side boards and a roast pork and sauerkraut dinner; beer and soda are extra. Wine and spirits are BYOB.

Chesterland History Talk

Nov. 10, 7 p.m.

Local historian Sylvia Wiggins, of the Chesterland Historical Society, will speak at Chesterland Baptist Church, 12670 Chillicothe Road. She will talk about the interesting people who lived in Chester Township in the past, as well as how the township has developed through the years. The program marks the beginning of the yearlong 2019 celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Chesterland Baptist Church. Garland Likins will also present history of the Chesterland Baptist Church.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Veterans Day Pancakes at the Grange

Nov. 11, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hambden Grange 2482 is serving an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with maple syrup, corn fritters, sausage, fruit, juice, cocoa and coffee at 9778 Old State Road, Chardon The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony

Nov. 11, 11 a.m.

The American Legion, Chardon Post 167 and Chardon VFW Post 6519 are sponsoring a ceremony at the Chardon Courthouse on Chardon Square. The ceremony will include a color guard, rifle salute, a bugler playing Taps.

Special guest speaker is Lt. Col. Allen West, a highly decorated officer and combat veteran who is a well-known political commentator and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 22nd congressional district.

Heroes of Conservation Awards

Nov. 11, 2:30-5 p.m.

Protect Geauga Parks will host the fourth annual Geauga Heroes of Conservation awards and reception in the community room of Munson Township Hall, 12210 Auburn Road. The reception will feature the presentation of awards, music, poetry and refreshments.

The 2018 Geauga Heroes of Conservation Reception will honor recipients Judy Barnhart, Nathan Finck (d. 2012) and Greg Studen.

The second annual Bob McCullough conservation scholarships will be awarded to three Geauga students who will graduate in 2019.

Operation Christmas Child

Join to fill shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for the Samaritan’s Purse project during National Collection Week, Nov. 12-19. Drop off Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon; Wednesday and Thursday, 3-6 p.m.; Saturday, 12-4 p.m.; Sunday, 1-3 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to noon.

Maple Madness

Jenn Freeman, of Richard’s Maple Products in Chardon, will share the history and sweet success of the maple sugar business in Geauga County at Pine Ridge Country Club, 30601 Ridge Road, Wickliffe. Stonecroft Ministries speaker Karen Burkhart, of Columbus, will present “Breaking up with Approval Seeking.”

Fresh Farmers’ Winter Market

The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market will open its winter market for its fourth year inside Lowe’s Greenhouse, Florist and Gift Shop, 16540 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge. The market will run from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Dec. 29 and then from Jan. 12 to March 23.

New Chapter Meeting

An informational meeting for a new Bainbridge chapter of the American Legion will be held at the Burns Lindow Building, 8465 Bainbridge Road. The meeting is free of charge and open to all veterans and their families. Registration is not necessary, but may be made on eventbrite.com.

CV Herb Society Meets

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library for refreshments, a short business meeting and a make and take Siena holiday ball jar vignette workshop. Bring along gloves and clippers as well as a mug for tea.

Audubon Highlights Herons

Nov. 20, 7 p.m.

Citizen scientists Rob and Peg Bobel will present “The Return of the Great Blues” for Blackbrook Audubon’s program at Holden Arboretum, 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland. The husband and wife team has been monitoring Great Blue Heron nests in Cuyahoga Valley National Park for over 20 years.
