GEL Breakfast

Dan Ruminski – The Cleveland Storyteller – will be the guest speaker at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast program atKent State University Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton. He will use stories from Cleveland’s past to shine a light on critical business values that can drive and sustain business leaders through the most challenging times.

Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated. Students are welcome.

GOP Lincoln Day Dinner

April 6

The Geauga County Republican Party will hold its annual Lincoln Day dinner at The Tanglewood Club, 8745 Tanglewood Trail, Bainbridge Township. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 pm.

Keynote speaker will be Ohio Senate President Larry Obhoff, with special remarks by Congressman Dave Joyce and a visit from Abraham Lincoln.

Tri For A Reason

April 7

The Geauga Family YMCA is hosting Tri For A Reason, an indoor triathlon. Event consists of a 15 minute swim, 20 minute bike ride and 20 minute run.

Cost is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Relay teams are $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers.

Proceeds benefit LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a zero-cost fitness program for cancer survivors.

Genealogical Society Meets

April 9, 7 p.m.

Sandra Milton Beane will present “Climbing Higher on Your Family Tree” at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society at Chardon Library, 110 E. Park St. The program will begin following the 7 p.m. business meeting.

Czech Easter Bread

DTJ Taborville is selling the traditional Czech Easter bread by order only. Mazanec, or houska, is a sweet dough with golden raisins and almonds baked into a round loaf with a cross cut into the top.

Cost is $7.50 for a 2-pound loaf. Orders must be placed by April 10 and can be picked up April 14.

Garrettsville Idol Auditions

April 14, 1 p.m.

Open-call auditions for Garrettsville Idol, the grand finale event that closes out SummerFest Festival, will be held at the Iva Walker Auditorium in James A. Garfield School. Use the event entrance.

Adults will compete for a $1,000 cash prize; youth and teens will each compete for $500. Prizes will be awarded to the winner at the finals held during SummerFest, which is held every year on the fourth weekend in June.

Contestants are asked to come prepared to sing an entire song without musical accompaniment. Closed auditions will be held in three age brackets: youth ages 8-12 and teens ages 13-17 at 1 p.m. and adults 18 and older at 2 p.m. Arrive 15 minutes early to fill out a biography sheet for the program.

One must be available April 14, May 19 and June 30 to be eligible to audition.

Red Wagon Spring Luncheon

April 27, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Christ Child Society of Geauga County is holding its 29th annual Red Wagon Spring Luncheon at St. Noel Party Center in Willoughby Hills. Guest emcee is Jen Harcher, Channel 8 meteorologist.

The Chinese auction and luncheon raffles support the many programs and activities of the Society in its mission to help and serve children at risk in Geauga County for over 30 years.

The luncheon will again feature signature gift baskets, along with spring plants and flowers.
