Tri For A Reason
April 7
The Geauga Family YMCA is hosting Tri For A Reason, an indoor triathlon. Event consists of a 15 minute swim, 20 minute bike ride and 20 minute run.
Cost is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Relay teams are $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers.
Proceeds benefit LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a zero-cost fitness program for cancer survivors.

Chesterland Village Open House
April 7, 2-4 p.m.
Chesterland Historical Village greets spring with an open house, featuring the 1847 Scotland School. Schoolmaster Mike Nolan welcomes students of all ages as he conducts a class much like one taught in 1850.
Special guest for the day will be busker Dave Partington, a locally known traveling musician with a selection of instruments he will play.
All vintage buildings will be open with docents present. Stop by the General Store to view the barn quilt on display.
There is no charge for the programs held on the 10-acre historical park located on the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads in Chester Township.
Sticky Secrets of Maple Syrup
April 9, 1 p.m.
Gwen Mayer, award-winning archivist from Hudson Library, will explore the story of maple syruping in the local area. She will use vintage photos and folklore to delve into its sticky secrets.
The free event is open to the public at Inn at The Pines Assisted Living, 18122 Claridon-Troy Road, Hiram. Refreshments will follow.

Genealogical Society Meets
April 9, 7 p.m.
Sandra Milton Beane will present “Climbing Higher on Your Family Tree” at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society at Chardon Library, 110 E. Park St. The program will begin following the 7 p.m. business meeting.

Czech Easter Bread.
DTJ Taborville is selling the traditional Czech Easter bread by order only. Mazanec, or houska, is a sweet dough with golden raisins and almonds baked into a round loaf with a cross cut into the top.
Cost is $7.50 for a 2-pound loaf. Orders must be placed by April 10 and can be picked up April 14.

Master Gardeners Offer Free Class
April 13, 10 a.m. to noon
Master Gardener volunteer and certified arborist Deborah Palmisano will lead a free class on tree identification at The West Woods Park and Nature Center. Learn how to identify both native and popular trees and woody plants. Bring photos or samples from trees or shrubs that need identification. Weather permitting, the group will allow time for a hike and identification of trees on the grounds.

Fellowship EasterBlast

Fellowship Bible Church is hosting “Fellowship EasterBlast” at the Federated Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road, Bainbridge Township.
The event will include games, inflatables, face-painting, food and an Easter egg hunt with traditional eggs as well as those suitable for children with sensory, auditory and visually impaired developmental delays.

Red Wagon Spring Luncheon

The Christ Child Society of Geauga County is holding its 29th annual Red Wagon Spring Luncheon at St. Noel Party Center in Willoughby Hills. Guest emcee is Jen Harcher, Channel 8 meteorologist.
The Chinese auction and luncheon raffles support the many programs and activities of the Society in its mission to help and serve children at risk in Geauga County for over 30 years.
The luncheon will again feature signature gift baskets, along with spring plants and flowers.

Monday Morning Speaker Series
Encore NEO offering “The Age 50 plus Career Transition“ speaker series and discussion group for individuals 50 and older who are out of work and seeking income security.
The group meets Mondays, beginning at 7:30 a.m. for coffee and networking, followed by introductions at 8 a.m. and the speaker and discussion from 8:15-9:15 a.m. The program concludes at 9:30 a.m. with refreshments and networking.
The April 8 and 15 meetings will be held at Federated Family Life Center in Bainbridge Township.
The location changes for the April 22 meeting and each subsequent meeting to Geauga County Public Library Newbury Station.

The Federated Church of Chagrin Falls will hold its annual Trinkets and Treasures sale of quality household and kitchen goods, sporting equipment, holiday decor, gently worn clothing and accessories, tools, books, children’s toys, electronics, jewelry, antiquesand more at the Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 2 and 3 and 9 a.m. to noon May 4, half price bag day.
Shop the “First Opportunity to Buy” event on May 1 from 5:30-8 p.m. Admission is $10 on Wednesday only. Bids will be accepted on an antique oil painting and award-winning handmade quilt. A collection of paintings will be offered through the event.
