Holbrook Hollows Nature Walk

The Foundation for Geauga Parks is hosting a nature walk at the Geauga Park District’s newly opened Holbrook Hollows, 7250 Country Lane, Bainbridge Township.
The group will be joined by Geauga Park District naturalist Dan Best and participants are encouraged to bring binoculars. The 2.8-mile walk should last about 90 minutes and will take place rain or shine.
Joe Peters Memorial Pig Roast
July 13, 3-8 p.m.
The third annual Joe Peters Memorial Pig Roast will be held at Shangri La Event Center, 16110 McCall Road in Parkman. Proceeds benefit all Cardinal students through Cardinal Athletic Boosters.
Tickets are $35 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-11 and free for kids 5 and under.
Event includes Chinese auction, corn- hole, sand volleyball, free pontoon cruises and a raffle drawing for a 2019 Equinox LT at 7 p.m.

Poetry in the Park
July 14, 2-4 p.m.
The third annual Poetry in the Park will occur at the gazebo in downtown Painesville. All poets are invited to participate in the poetry play-off to be judged by Rob Jackson, editor emeritus, “Great Lakes Review,” and Patrick Culltion, author of “Sam’s Teeth.” Bring copies of three poems suitable for a public space. Featured readers will be Toledo poets Jonie McIntire, Dan Denton, Adrian Lime and Kerry Trautman.

Geauga Dems Annual Dinner
July 14, 6 p.m.
The Geauga County Democratic Party will host “An Evening with Steve Dettelbach, former United States Attorney for the Northern District,” during its annual dinner at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road, Chester Township.
Dettelbach will speak about the Mueller report and the legal, ethical and political issues involved in impeachment. Dinner will be served along with adult beverages.

Kid Kickers Soccer
West Geauga Soccer Club is accepting registrations for its fall Kid Kickers soccer program. The program has clinic options for boys and girls ages 4-6, as well as team options at the u8 and u10 levels.

Classic Car & Bike Show
July 14,10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 10th annual Classic Car and Bike Show on Chardon Square. All makes, models and years of cars, hot rods, motorcycles and trucks will be on display including one-of-a-kind vehicles.
The show will also feature a DJ, food, an ice cream truck, a Chinese auction, 50-50 raffle and vendors.
Entry fee is $10 per vehicle. The first 100 who register will receive a guaranteed parking spot, T-shirt, goody bag and dash plaques. Preregistration is available on chardonchamber.com.
Proceeds from the show benefit the Chamber’s scholarship and community event funds.

Master Gardeners Offer Free Class

Ohio State University staff and Master Gardener volunteers Dick Coin and Matt Valencic will present “Earth’s Carbon Cycle: The Goldilocks Balance” atThe West Woods Park and Nature Center.

Yoder Brothers Reverse Raffle

The Yoder Brothers, Joshua and Tyler, Scholarship Foundation is hosting its second annual Reverse Raffle with a $5,000 grand prize to at the EOUV, 8636 Pekin Road, Russell Township.
The event features a silent auction, fish bowl raffle, DJ, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert as well as an open bar. Tickets are $75 and include a raffle number.
Proceeds help the foundation award renewable scholarships to students at Cardinal, Berkshire and Newbury high schools.

Family Fun Day

GCRTA Annual Picnic

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will hold its annual picnic at the Munson Township Park, 12641 Bass Lake Road. Gathering time will be followed by the business meeting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon. Bring a dish to share and table service.
Newly retired teachers and Grant-in-Aid student winners will be introduced and educational grant winning teachers will explain how they used their grants in the classroom. The program will include live music and 50/50 raffle.

Friends of WomenSafe Golf Outing
Aug. 8
Friends of WomenSafe will hold its third annual golf outing, “Greens for the Greenhouse,” at Fowler’s Mill Golf Course. The event will include 18 holes of golf in a scramble format, hole games, breakfast, lunch and a light dinner.
Funds raised benefit the Green House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, serving Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties.

12th Annual Dice Run
Aug. 17
Sign-up for Chardon Post 6519’s 12th annual Dice Run begins at 10 a.m. at the post located at 752 Water St. Bikes depart at 10:30 a.m. and last bike in is at 4 p.m. There is a new route this year; directions and maps provided at sign-in.
Donation is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger. Event includes 50/50, pull tabs and raffle baskets.
Dinner will be provided at the end of the run with a cash bar.

Chicken Dinner and Car Show

Edward and Lucy Parish will host the 10th annual Chicken Dinner and Car Show, rain or shine, at 16150 Center St. in Parkman. Event features classic cars and trucks, Chinese auction, raffles, bingo, DJ Cory and family horse racing.
Tickets for the barbecue chicken dinner are $12 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
Donation of $10 requested for car show entries. Goodie bags and dash plaques given to first 100 cars. Three prizes will be awarded along with a $200 gas card, compliments of Best Funeral Home. Drawing at 4 p.m. Winner must be present.

Fall Fish Sale Begins
Sept. 19
The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual fall fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, yellow perch, bluegill/sunfish mix, channel catfish, white amurs and fathead minnows. Pond safety kits and farm pond management books are also available.
