Parkman Congregational Church is hosting a taco bar / Mexican night dinner at the church located at 18265 Madison Road. Dinner is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children 5-10 years old. Carryout is available for $12. All proceeds support the Geauga Faith Rescue Mission.

Free Concert In The Park

Aug. 16, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Newbury Township’s 2019 concert series sponsored by the Newbury Township Board of Trustees concludes with songwriter and singer Melanie May performing and featuring her album “Reckless.”

Oberland Park opens at 6:30 p.m. and is located at 14639 Auburn Road in Newbury Township.

Free Community Breakfast

Aug. 17, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Ledgewood Christian Church is hosting its free community breakfast at the church located at 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

The menu includes pancakes, sausage, salmon patties, juice, coffee and tea. Ample parking is available in the rear of the church building. All are welcome.

Scrap Tire Collection

Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to noon

A scrap tire collection for Russell Township will be held at the township road garage located at 15625 Chillicothe Road.

There is a limit of eight tires per household. The tires must be dry and off the rim. Passenger and light truck tires only.

The event is limited to Russell Township residents only. No business or commercial drop-off.

12th Annual Dice Run

Aug. 17

Sign-up for Chardon Post 6519’s 12th annual Dice Run begins at 10 a.m. at the post located at 752 Water St. Bikes depart at 10:30 a.m. and last bike in is at 4 p.m. There is a new route this year; directions and maps provided at sign-in.

Donation is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger. Event includes 50/50, pull tabs and raffle baskets.

Dinner will be provided at the end of the run with a cash bar.

Reiki Clinic in Chester

Aug. 17, 2-5 p.m.

DeJohn Funeral Homes & Celebrations Center will host a Reiki clinic at 12811 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Appointments will be held every 30 minutes with a special Reiki therapist. Pre-registration is recommended to reserve a specific time. Sessions are $20 per person for a 30-minute appointment and $40 for a 50-minute appointment. Register online only at DeJohnCares.com/Reiki.

Walk-ins are welcome for $25 per person for a 30-minute session. Prepay online or cash only at the door.

Chicken Barbecue

Newbury American Legion Post 663 is hosting its annual chicken barbecue in the Hunter Pavilion behind the post at 11008 Kinsman Road, Newbury.

Audubon Explores New Marsh

Aug. 18, 9:30 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon invites everyone to a newly created, emerging wetland at the western end of Lake Erie during a special field trip to Howard Marsh. Meet at 7 a.m. Lakeland Community College’s front parking lot to carpool or head straight for the marsh located at 611 S. Howard Road in Curtice for the walk.

Blackbrook will record the day’s bird list on eBird.org. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if available.

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will be open that day for auto tours. Bring a sack lunch and beverages.

Chicken Dinner and Car Show

Aug. 18, 11 a.m.

Edward and Lucy Parish will host the 10th annual Chicken Dinner and Car Show, rain or shine, at 16150 Center St. in Parkman. Event features classic cars and trucks, Chinese auction, raffles, bingo, DJ Cory and family horse racing.

Tickets for the barbecue chicken dinner are $12 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.

Donation of $10 requested for car show entries. Goodie bags and dash plaques given to first 100 cars. Three prizes will be awarded along with a $200 gas card, compliments of Best Funeral Home. Drawing at 4 p.m. Winner must be present.

Door prizes awarded every 15 minutes. Chinese auction early bird tickets go on sale Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 400 items to bid on, with the drawing at 6 p.m.; winner need not be present.

CCAT Car & Motorcycle Show

The Chardon Community Action Team will hold its 20th annual Car and Motorcycle Show on Chardon Square. The show provides a fun event for families, residents and car and motorcycle enthusiasts. Event includes food, live music, bake sale, Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.

Registrations are still being accepted until 1 p.m. the day of the show for all makes and models of cars and motorcycles.

Geauga Dems Discuss Russian Intervention

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host a hot topic spaghetti dinner at the party headquarters located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Jennifer Brush, former ambassador and diplomat, will speak about Russian intervention in our elections.

IMC/VMC Club Meets

Aug. 22, 7 p.m.

EAA Chapter 5 will host its next IMC/VMC meeting in Hanger 3 at Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road, Middlefield. Arrive early for a 6:30 p.m. social before the program and stay for some hanger flying starting at 8 p.m. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Each meeting has something for both instrument and non-instrument rated pilots. Meetings will alternate between an emphasis on IMC and VMC scenarios. The August meeting program will focus on IMC, but will have a scenario for non-instrument or VFR only pilots as well.

Middlefield Chamber Golf Outing

Aug. 23

The Middlefield Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf outing will be held at Rolling Green Golf Course in Huntsburg. Cost is $75 per player or $300 per team. Event is a four person scramble and includes skins and proximity games, long drive contests and prizes for first, second and third places.

Registration is from 7:30-9 a.m. Tee off at 9 a.m. Event is a four-person scramble and includes lunch at the turn, dinner following golf.

Vintage Car, Truck & Tractor Show

Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The third annual vintage car, truck and tractor show sponsored by the Newbury Township Board of Trustees will be held at Oberland Park, 14639 Auburn Road, Newbury Township.

All years and makes welcome, including antique, classic, muscle, sports and tuner cars. Show awards; first 100 receive goody bags and first 75 receive dash plaques.

Registration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. No admission or registration fee. Food and raffle sales benefit Newbury Music Boosters K-12.

Twilight Soiree

The Foundation for Geauga Parks will be holding its annual Twilight Soiree at Veterans Legacy Woods, 14085 Ravenna Road, Newbury Township.

The event includes beverages, dinner, live music by the Dan West and the Real Deal String Band, presentation by Harvey Webster of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, telescopes and astronomy presentation, silent auction and raffle. Proceeds benefit Foundation programs and educational initiatives.

Scouts on the Square

Aug. 25, 1-4 p.m.

Join for fun activities for the whole family on the south lawn of Chardon Square. Learn about the Scouting units in the greater Chardon area. Visit all of the units and earn a commemorative patch. Parents can earn a chance to win a door prize.

Chinese Auction and Raffle

Sept. 7, 11 a.m.

St. Patrick Church in Thompson Township is hosting its annual Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle in the church hall. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the drawing begins at 1:30 p.m.

An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. A light lunch will be available.
