This-n-That Sale
Sept. 5-7
The St. Mark Lutheran Church Women’s League will hold its annual rummage sale at the church located at 11900 Chillicothe in Chester Township.
Hours are Thursday, 4-7 p.m., with a $5 donation at the door; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free Friday and Saturday.
GEL Breakfast

The first Geauga Economic Leadership (GEL) breakfast of the season features Mary Ann Ponce, director of the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival, at Kent State University at Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton
Ponce will speak about the festival’s 10th anniversary, Oct. 2-6. Learn the inspiration behind the festival, how film’s are selected, behind the scenes preparations and the economic impact.

Join The Flight
Sept. 6-8
EAA Chapter 5 will bring the World War II B-17 “Aluminum Overcast” to Lost Nation Airport. Visit www.B17.org to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets for a ride are $449 in advance and $475 on site the day of the event. EAA members receive a discount on their online purchase.
Ground tours are also available and can be purchased at the event only; tours are $10, children under 8 are free with a paying adult. All active military and veterans are complimentary. Group and family rates available.
Flights will operate 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and ground tours are from 2- 5 p.m.
The airport will have World War II vehicles, videos and displays available to see and merchandise to purchase. On Saturday and Sunday, EAA Chapter 5 will prepare a pancake breakfast for purchase; breakfast is free for World War II veterans.

Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway at the church located at 14961 Auburn Road.
Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents the first Saturday of each month. Please bring ID and bags.
Chinese Auction and Raffle
Sept. 7, 11 a.m.
St. Patrick Church in Thompson Township is hosting its annual Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle in the church hall. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the drawing begins at 1:30 p.m.
An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. A light lunch will be available.
Chardon Rubber Reunion Picnic
Sept. 7, 1-4 p.m.
The 10th annual Chardon Rubber employee picnic will be held at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve, 11620 Ravennain Chardon.
Bring a dish to pass and beverage. Donations for the Chinese auction are appreciated.
Auburn FD Clambake
Sept. 7, 6-8:30 p.m.
The Auburn Fire Department is hosting its annual clambake at the fire station located at 10950 Washington St. in Auburn Township.
Regular bake dinner costs $30 and includes a dozen clams, half a barbecue chicken, corn, yams, coleslaw, roll, soda and beer. Extra clams will be available for $10 per dozen, as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids for $3.50.
There will also be live entertainment and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the fire department. The Auburn Firedevils will have cookbooks available.

Join Cub Scouts
Sept. 10, 7-8 p.m.
Cub Scouts Pack 3141 will hold a meet and greet for new familiesat First United Methodist Church, 14999 S. State Ave, Middlefield. Meetings will continue to be held there every Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Pack 3141 is open to all youth ages of 5 to 12 and teaches leadership, group activity, self esteem, good citizenship and physical fitness. Parents are included in meetings.
Threads of War

The Geauga County Historical Society presents a three-part program, “Threads of War: Fashion During the Civil War,” at Century Village Museum in Burton.
The program includes a talk by Molly M. Sergi, professor of history, Kent State University, Geauga Campus; brunch; and a tour of the Civil War Fashion Exhibit, created from the textile collection of the GCHS and other contributors.

Chagrin River Bird Quest
Sept. 13-14
Two local chapters of the National Audubon Society challenge everyone who enjoys birds to explore the Chagrin River Valley and find as many bird species as they can in the fifth annual Chagrin River Bird Quest. Bird alone or in teams and record species in one 24-hour period from 4 p.m. Sept. 13 to 4 p.m. Sept. 14. Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland and Blackbrook Audubon Society are co-sponsoring this birding event that includes parts of Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga and Portage counties.
All Bird Quest activities and materials are free, but registration is required. Teams can be two or more people, any age or experience level, but one team member must be at least 18 with a valid driver’s license. New birders or those needing to bring their skills into sharper focus can register for an introductory birding workshop from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 8 at The Holden Arboretum. Registration for the free workshop is required by Sept. 6 at https://clevelandaudubon.org.
Participants have a choice of two check-in locations where they can pick up their T-shirts, maps, list of guided bird walks and checklists. Check-in at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township or the Novak Education Center in Aurora from 4- 6 p.m. Sept. 13. Audubon will award prizes in different categories. Contestants will turn in their checklists at The West Woods Nature Center Sept. 14. From 4-6:30 p.m., celebrate the quest with refreshments, door prizes and awards.

Auburn Community Picnic

Join for Auburn’s Community Picnic at Auburn Community Park, 17484 Munn Road. There will be live music by Profit Band, bounce houses, carnival games and prizes, food, the Green Bus food truck, i Scream truck, Dr. U.R. Awesome bubbleologist, Cracker Jack the Clown and more. If available, the Medevac helicopter will land for viewing.

Woofstock 2019
Sept. 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rescue Village’s annual Woofstock festival and fundraiser will be held at Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field. Event features adoptable dogs, live music, dog games and contests, agility course, blessing of the animals, vendors, food trucks and more.
Admission ranges from $5 to $25. Youth 10 and under are free.

Get Septic Smart

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District and Geauga Public Health will host a free SepticSmart program at the Patterson Center on the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton. Join for an informative presentation with Dave Sage and Zach Myers, registered sanitarians with Geauga Public Health, to discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.
