Harmony Comes to Chesterland

The Johnny Cake Ridge Singers of the Barbershop Harmony Society has moved to Chester Township. The group is looking for men who love to sing. The group meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at Word of Grace Church, 9021 Mayfield Road.

CV Herb Society Meets

Jan. 17, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. Guests are welcome. Wellness expert Jennifer Cecere from Fly2Wellness will speak at 1:30 p.m. on mindfulness and motivation. Bring a mug for refreshments. A business meeting, including new officer installation, begins at 1 p.m.

Free Community Breakfast

Jan. 18, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Ledgewood Christian Church is hosting its free community breakfast at the church located at 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

The menu includes pancakes, sausage, salmon patties, juice, coffee and tea. Ample parking is available in the rear of the church. All are welcome.

Audubon Brings Junco into View

Jan. 21, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will focus on the dark-eyed Junco in a free program at the Holden Arboretum, 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland. Mike Watson, a conservation biologist at Holden, will describe what his study has revealed on their seasonal movements.

VFW Wednesday Dinners

Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve lasagna dinners every Wednesday in January at the post located at 752 Water St. Donation is $7. The public is welcome.

Geauga Dems Hot Topic Dinner

Jan. 23, 6:30 p.m.

Dennis Schmidt, retired Cleveland Clinic psychiatrist, will talk about ways to maintain one’s sanity during the 2020 election season at the Geauga County Democratic Party’s hot topic dinner being held at party headquarters located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Dinner and dessert will be served. Cost is $13 for members and $25 for nonmembers.

Cub Scout Benefit Dinner

Jan. 24, 4:30-7:30 p.m.

A spaghetti dinner and auction by the Middlefield Cub Scout Pack 3141 Boy Scouts of America is being held at Parkman Community House on U.S. Route 422 in Parkman Township.

Tickets purchased in advance are $9 for adults, $5 ages 5-12. Kids under 5 eat for free. At the door tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for ages 5-12. Carryout dinners are available.

Auction tickets will be sold during dinner, with the auction drawing at 7 p.m. Those entering the 50/50 must be present.

Presale tickets are available at the scout meetings that begin at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Middlefield United Methodist Church, 14999 S. State Ave., or by calling Monique at 216-337-2104.

Event is sponsored by Friends of Pack 3141 and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the pack.

Food Distribution

Jan. 25, 9-11 a.m.

The Cleveland Food Bank will be distributing food to people in need at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Tea Party Meets

Jan. 28, 6:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Tea Party hosts Micah Derry, from Americans for Prosperity, at the Metzenbaum facility located at 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township.

Mr. Derry will be speaking in opposition to the electric utility industry bailout that occurred in 2019, and discussing the referendum in process.

50 Gun Bash

Feb. 1, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ducks Unlimited on Northeast Ohio will host their 50 Gun Bash at the Pavilion Building/Heritage Market Place, 15848 Nauvoo Road in Middlefield. Doors open and side raffles start at 11 a.m. Food will be served from 1-4 p.m.

The first gun for the main raffle will be drawn at 1 p.m., with one gun will be given away every five minutes.

Attendance tickets are $20 each, advance purchase only. Raffle only tickets are $10 each or three for $20.

VFW Pancake Breakfasts

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will be serving its annual pancake breakfasts every Sunday, Feb. 2 through April 5, from 8 a.m. to noon at the post located at 752 Water St. in Chardon. Senior and kids menus are available. Breakfast features three kinds of pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, ham, eggs made to order, home fries, toast and beverages. Senior menus are available, too.

GCRTA Meeting

Feb. 4, 11 a.m.

The Geauga Country Retired Teachers Association will meet in St. Mary’s Church Banquet Room, 401 North St, Chardon. Gathering time will be followed by a business meeting and a roast pork luncheon at noon.

Chardon Municipal Court Judge Terri Stupica will speak on current legal hot topics. A 50/50 raffle and free lunch raffle will follow the program.

Spring Fish Sale

April 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual spring fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill/sunfish mix, minnows, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, white amurs and yellow perch.
