Audubon Monthly Bird Hike

Blackbrook Audubon continues its monthly bird survey at Beaty Landing, 543 East Walnut Ave., Painesville. Meet at the larger, lower parking lot.

Blackbrook plans to monitor this site on the fourth Sunday of each month until March 2021. If the assembled birders number greater than 10 people, they will split into two groups to facilitate physical distancing. Wearing masks is optional, but binoculars cannot be shared.

EAA Flying Start Program

Aug. 23, 1 p.m.

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 5 is hosting a Flying Start informational program on learning to fly at Hangar 3 of the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. The event will cover the steps and requirements in learning to fly, provide tips on how to make it economical and will culminate in a free introductory flight.

Tea Party Addresses Right to Work

Aug. 26, 6:30 p.m.

Ron Hood, executive director of the Washington, D.C-based National Right to Work Committee, joins Geauga County Tea Party to discuss labor law, worker and workplace freedoms and the upcoming election. The event will be held at Geauga Parks Beartown Lakes, 18870 Quinn Road, Auburn and Bainbridge townships.

History of Women’s Voting Rights

Aug. 26, 7 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Geauga will host “100 Years of of Voting Rights for Women: The Geauga/Lake Connection” presented by Judge Mary Jane Trapp.

The program will highlight significant local historical events and activists who impacted the women’s suffrage movement.

VFW Auxiliary Rummage Sale

Aug. 28 and 29

Donations will be accepted for the VFW Post 6519 Auxiliary rummage sale on Aug. 26 and 27. No clothing or large furniture will be accepted. The post is located at 752 Water St. in Chardon.

Ducks Unlimited Fish Fry

Aug. 28, 4:30 p.m.

The Middlefield Marsh Chapter of Ducks Unlimited second annual banquet will be held at the Pavilion Building at Heritage Market Place, 15848 Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. Ticket includes D.U. annual membership, all-you-can-eat Lake Erie perch dinner, a chance at five attendance raffle prizes and the opportunity to participate in a live auction, silent auction and numerous other games and raffles.

LGRC Ride for Recovery

Aug. 30

Register for Lake-Geauga Recovery Center’s fourth annual Ride for Recovery. The ride starts and ends at Bike Ohio, 8576 E. Washington St., Chagrin Falls. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

Ride is $30 per person. Children must be 12 or older to ride. Children under 18 must have signed parental consent. Riders must wear helmets. All proceeds help support LGRC programs.

Dems Host Alternative Fair

Sept. 5, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sept. 6, 1-4 p.m.

The Geauga Democratic Party will host its first alternative fair, rain or shine, on the front lawn of its headquarters located at 12420 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township.

Register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 general election, meet candidates and talk politics. Campaign signs, flags, hats, buttons and bumper stickers will be for sale. Food will be available. Come with a mask on and plan to social distance under the big tent.

Free Community Giveaway

Sept. 10 and 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, books, holiday theme decorations, linens and housewares will be held at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon. Masks and social distancing are required.
