Spring’s Around the Corner Bird Walk
March 14, 9-11 a.m.
Discover both resident and migratory birds in the forest and in the wetlands during this slow-paced bird walk at The Rookery in Munson Township. Chief Naturalist John Kolar will assist participants with observation and identification. Binoculars will be available to borrow or bring your own.
The Joy Of Shade Gardening
March 14, 10-11:30 a.m.
Dave Tomashefski, of Meadow City Nursery, will present “Shade Gardening: Making the Most of Soft Landing Gardens” at the West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.
Learn how the how the shaded areas under trees play a vital role in supporting wildlife. Participants will learn practical, easy-to-apply strategies for designing gardens that not only beautify shady spaces but also nurture the full life cycle of beneficial insects.
The collaborative program is presented in partnership with the Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio and Geauga Master Gardeners.
Icy Insects
March 22, 2-3:30 p.m.
Head to Beartown Lakes Reservation in Auburn Township for a hike that may reveal a hidden world many hikers overlook. A sharp eye can find springtails, stoneflies, spiders and more crawling around on the winter ground, even on top of the snow. Naturalist Andy Avram will showcase the fascinating adaptations that allow wildlife to thrive in Geauga County’s colder months.
