Stream Restoration in Action

April 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hear from Geauga Park District biologist Paul Pira about his project to restore a coldwater stream at the former Wicked Woods Golf Course during an indoor presentation at The West Woods Nature Center, then reconvene at Veterans Legacy Woods for a hike out to the restoration site. Expect hilly terrain. In cooperation with the Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio, the presentation is from 10-11 a.m., followed by the hike from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who attend the presentation need not feel obligated to also attend the hike. No registration is required.

Spring Birding

Geauga Park District will offer a variety of spring birding programs to help residents explore migrating birds across Northeast Ohio.

“Birding for Beginners” will be held April 23 at 3 p.m. at Orchard Hills Park; April 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Eldon Russell Park; and May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Troy Wetlands. These slow-paced guided walks are designed for newcomers, with experienced naturalists assisting with bird observation and identification; binoculars will be available.

The annual Spring Bird Walk Series for seasoned birders and beginners alike will take place Sundays from 7:30-9:30 a.m.: April 12 at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve; April 19 at Frohring Meadows; April 26 at The Rookery; May 3 at Eldon Russell Park; May 10 at Big Creek Park; and May 17 at Swine Creek Reservation.

Additional programs include “Let’s Go Birding!” on May 24 from 8-10 a.m. at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve and a World Migratory Bird Day Bird Sit on May 16 from 6:30-11:30 a.m. at Holbrook Hollows.

All programs are free and do not require registration.
