Flu Shots Available

The Geauga County Health District has announced its adult flu clinics for adults 19 and older.

Flu shots will be available every Friday during the season from 8:30-11 a.m. at 470 Center St., Building 8, Chardon.

The health district will also have clinics at the Geauga County Senior Center located at 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon Oct. 23 from 1-3 p.m. and Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Geauga County Health District will bill most Medicare and employer health plans. The flu vaccinations cost $30 or $40 for high dose vaccine if they are paid for in cash.

Bloodmobile

American Red Cross blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors may give every 56 days and must bring some form of photo identification and a list of all current medications.

2014 Immunization Clinics

The Geauga County General Health District offers free walk-in immunization clinics for children and adolescents through the age of 18. Residents must present an immunization record as well as a current insurance card. The following is a list of upcoming immunization clinics:

Middlefield, Oct. 15, St. Lucy Mission, 16280 Kinsman Road, 9-11:30 a.m.

Flu Shots

Lake Health is offering quadrivalent flu shots for $30 at the Chardon Campus, 510 Fifth Ave., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No appointment is necessary. Individuals must be 18 years of age or older to receive the seasonal flu vaccine at our centers. The influenza vaccination is covered by Medicare.

Blood Pressure Screenings

Lake Health will offer free blood pressure checks at the Chardon Campus, 510 Fifth Ave., from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Dangers of Prescription Drug Abuse

Ravenwood Mental Health Center will present a workshop for the Geauga County community on the dangers of prescription drug abuse on Oct. 28 at Sisters of Notre Dame, Notre Dame Education Center Auditorium, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon. Guest speaker Robert Hill, DEA special agent, will discuss the dangers of prescription drug abuse with an emphasis on opiates.

The free professional workshop is from 1:30-4 p.m. The free community program for the public begins at 6 p.m. with free pizza, cookies and drinks. The presentation will run from 7-8:30 p.m.

Help for Mental Health

Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness.

The fall session of the Peer-to-Peer education course designed to help those with a mental illness understand their illness and gain skills to foster recovery begins Oct. 11 at Geauga Independent Housing Unit, 13230 Aquilla Road in Chardon. The free classes will meet every Tuesday for 10 weeks from 2-4 p.m.
