Help for Mental Illness

Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness. Family-to-Family is a free educational course for family members, friends and caregivers of individuals living with mental illness.

The class will meet Saturdays, beginning Sept. 19, from 12-2 p.m., for 12 weeks at the office annex located at 103 South St. Suite 2, Chardon. For more information and to register, visit www.namigeauga.org.

NAMI Speaker Meeting

Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m.

Bethany Yeiser and her mom Karen Yeiser will be the guest speakers at the NAMI Geauga County educational speaker meeting at Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon.

They will walk through their personal experience with schizophrenia and discuss the struggles families go through when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious mental health or addiction disorder.

LGRC Alumni Pancake Breakfast

Sept. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers Alumni Association is hosting its second annual pancake breakfast for all former clients, their families and the public at the First Church Congregational UCC located at 22 Liberty St. in Painesville.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and under. No registration is necessary.

Orthopaedics Day

Oct. 10, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center’s annual Orthopaedics Day will take place at Marriott Cleveland East, 26300 Harvard Road, Warrensville Heights.

The free community educational event will focus on the prevention and treatment of back and joint pain, along with general orthopaedic care and sports injury prevention. The program features interactive physician panels and a keynote presentation by Dr. J. Martin Leland, medical director, sports medicine, UH Geauga Medical Center.

Information displays and interactive vendor exhibits will be available. Complimentary breakfast will be provided.
