Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,
It was a beautiful morning on Sept. 4. After a few cool days, it seemed good to have it a little warmer. The fairgoers were probably happy for a nice day.
It’s been a while since my last letter, but I’ve been busy moving and getting ready for my auction, which was the evening of Aug. 30. There was a good-sized crowd. The lunch stand for Sawmill Lane School brought in some over $2,000.
Coming for the auction the afternoon of Aug. 29 were daughter Betty Melvin, Marcus, Juanita and Lorena and husband Loren. The afternoon of Aug. 30, grandsons Norman Ray and Nathan and families also came from Michigan. They all left for home the morning of Sept. 1, stopping at the Cleveland Zoo first.
Born to Olin and Elsie Yoder two weeks ago, a son. He was born with a heart defect and needed surgery to correct it. He still remains in Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.
Born to Mark and Cindy Bontrager the morning of Sept. 3 were twin sons. They were transferred to Rainbow’s Hospital from Geauga Regional Hospital. They both weighed over 4 pounds and are named Steven and Isaiah. Grandparents are Edward and Edna Bender and Lee and Ida Bontrager.
On Sept. 1, Bob and Sylvia Hershberger and family moved into my former home. Son Wayne continues to run the window shop and is renting out the house. I have moved to daughter Sylvia and Dean’s at D&S Door.
On Sunday afternoon I went out to granddaughter Rosanna and Aden Troyer with Sylvia and Dan and Cindy, Chester and Timmy, and Danny Ray and Betty for Rosanna’s birthday. We had grilled burgers, baked beans, salad, chips, drinks and ice cream cake. We enjoyed sitting around the campfire. How many more times before it gets too cold?
Some Amish schools started last week with the rest starting this week. I plan to help out at Sunny Hope at least one day a week starting Sept. 6. I am helping with lunch. The workshop children will not be there this year. They will be having classes at Ray and Judy Miller’s shop until they have the new workshop built, hopefully, by next summer.
There will be a blood drive at Joe’s Window Shop on Sept. 9, so if anyone can, come and donate. The need for blood is always very much needed.

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor’s office. “Is it true the medication you prescribed me has to be taken for the rest of my life?”
“Yes, I’m afraid so,” the doctor replied.
There was a moment of silence before the lady replied, “I’m wondering, then, just how serious my condition is? Because the prescription is marked ‘No Refills.’”
Thought for the Day
Try to live your life the way you wish other people would live theirs.
You all have a good day.
