Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,
It was a beautiful morning on Sept. 25 and felt like it was going to be another warm day. I’ll take it rather than a snow day. Although, we could use some rain.
Schools have started and women folks are winding up with canning season. Orders are being taken for apples. Fresh applesauce and apple dumplings sound good.
My, but those pesky starlings are awful. I filled three feeders this morning, and several hours later they have been almost emptied.
The morning of Sept. 22, Dan and Sylvia and four children, Danny, Ray and Betty, Wayne and Judy – all Millers – and I started for Pennsylvania. First stop was to visit the monument where Flight 93 crashed. If you have never been there, it would very much be worth your time to go. It was very touching. From there, we toured the Hershey Factory, which was quite something as well. My, the smell alone almost made you drool. From there we stopped at the Wilmer Esch home. He owns Bird-in-Hand Window Factory. Dan does much business with Wilmer. We then left for our motel. Saturday morning the guys went to Wilmer’s shop and us women went shopping in Amish stores. At 2 p.m. we left for home, arriving around 8 p.m., having had a very nice trip. The scenery was awesome. There were beautiful farms.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Daniel Glick family after receiving word of Daniel passing away the morning of Sept. 25. With the wedding at Reuben Byler’s of their daughter Lori Ann and David, son of John and Nancy Yoder, on Sept. 28, I suppose the funeral will be on Sept. 27, being it is only about a half mile from Reuben’s.
We are expecting daughter Betty and Melvin Byler, from Mio, Mich., to come for the wedding, with Melvin being a brother to Reuben. Also, expected are Albert and Sylvia and Joey and Betzy Miller, with Betzy being a sister to Reuben Irene. Hopefully, our nice weather will last until after the wedding.
Surprising Dan Miller, of Shedd Road, for his 50th birthday the evening of Sept. 24 were Mrs. John Mat, Joe and Saloma Miller, Al and Mae Kauffman and children, Aden and Rosanna Troyer and family, Mark and Susan Yoder, Matt and Betty Miller and boys, and I. Supper was served with burgers, baked beans, salad, cake and ice cream and drinks. It was another evening spent sitting around the campfire, which will all too soon come to an end.
Chuckles
The teenage daughter had been on the phone for half an hour. When she finally did hang up, her father said sarcastically, “You usually talk for two hours. What happened this time?”
“Wrong number, “ she replied.
How to make a Southern burglar alarm:
Go to a second hand store and buy a pair of men’s work boot, used size 14-16. Place them on your front porch along with a copy of “Guns & Ammo” magazine. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.
You all have a good day.
