Hello from Geauga County Amish Country

It had cooled off a little Monday morning, June 4. With all the showers, it makes things really grow.

Strawberries are ready to pick and some early garden things are being enjoyed. Greenhouses are busy selling their beautiful flowers. Farmers are trying to get hay dried. And so the busy summer has begun.

Going to Jasper, N.Y., May 30-31 were Mary Hershberger, Sarah Byler, Rebecca Kauffman, Sarah J. Miller, Mrs. Edna Byler and I. Edna and I went to celebrate our brother Melvin’s 80th birthday. Also meeting us there were sisters Clara and Eli Kauffman and Sylvia and Albert Miller from Mio, Mich. The Mio folks then came to Geauga County and visited sister Elmina and Mel and Fannie Yoder on June 1 before leaving for home in the afternoon. Mel is not feeling well.

Crist A. Miller, of Jug Road, spent a few days in the hospital when he had a mishap and his buggy tipped over leaving him with broken ribs and pelvis.

Toby and Esther Stolzfus have sold their home to Chester and Rosa Hershberger and will be moving to their daughter Catherine and Ray A. Yoder’s in Salineville, Ohio.

Spending the evening June 3 at Dan and Sylvia Miller’s were Joe and Saloma Miller, Bob and Mary Lou Miller and children, Ray and Judy Miller and Dan and Leona Gingerich and daughter Missy.

Son Perry, Katie Ann and David spent the evening with me on June 3.

Lots of weddings going on. I have invitations for two in Michigan, which I will have to miss. The wedding for Chester, son of Robert and Lena Hershberger, and Rosa Lee is on June 7.

Our sympathy to all the families who recently parted with loved ones – Sam and Linda Yoder in the passing of their 6-year-old, Kay Emma; the family of Daniel M. Troyer in the loss of their father; the family of Melvin and Betsy Miller in the passing of their mother; and Abe Coblentz family in the passing of their mother and grandmother.

Happy birthday wishes to son Wayne, born June 4, 1980, and to grandson Wayne Jr., born June 5, 2014.

A beggar approaches a grandmother at the beach with his hands out.

“Please, Senora,” the poor man pleads. “I haven’t eaten all day.”

“Good,” says the lady. “You won’t have to worry about cramps when you go for a swim.”

You all have a good day.
