Join GANG For Celtic Folk Jam

The GANG invites musicians and music lovers to join them for a Celtic Folk Jam on March 19 from 6:30-8:15 p.m. at Heinens Cafe, 402 Center St., Chardon. Leading the fun will be Nicky Bucur, a singer, keyboardist and guitar player who has been entertaining the Geauga community for more than 20 years with both traditional standards and popular tunes. He has invited a handful of musicians and singers to help lead the audience in renditions of popular Celtic folk songs.

The program is free and open to the general public, who are encouraged to perform with their own instruments and sing along.

The Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. Admission is free.

For more information, call Joanne Durante at 440?729?6481.

The Foreigner Opens March 8

Larry Shues The Foreigner opens at the Geauga Theater on March 8. Set in a rural lodge in Georgia, the play centers on Charlie, a sullen dejected man who is trying to avoid the need for unwanted conversation by pretending to not speak English. The ploy does not work, as ex-debutant Catherine Simms decides to tell Charlie all of her most personal and darkest secrets. Meanwhile, Catherine’s intellectually challenged younger brother, Ellard, takes it upon himself to “teach” Charlie some English. Other colorful characters add their own antics to create a very funny evening of theater.

Directed by Jack Warren, the show runs March 8-24. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 8 p.m. There will be two Sunday matinees March 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. Enjoy a wine reception beginning at 7 p.m. on opening night

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and $8 for youth 10 and under.

The historic Geauga Theater is located at 101 Water St. in Chardon. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.geaugatheater.org or call the box office at 440-286-2255.

GLTG Holding Summer Youth Workshops Registration

Geauga Lyric Theater Guild will offer many opportunities for youth ages 4 through 17 during the 2013 summer workshops.

Actors ages 4-7 will gain confidence as they participate in the junior workshops, Tall Tale Fun and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. The elementary drama (“Beauty and the Beast”) and elementary youth musical (“Dragon Tale”) workshops give children aged 7 to 12 a chance to expand their creative skills.

Tom Sawyer, a tweens only offering for ages 10 to 14, will be presented at the conclusion of the workshop. The teen musical, Shrek the Musical,” will help students not only explore their musical talents, but also will allow them to test their comedic potential.
