Nature Scopes Program
Munson fifth-graders have been seeing the beauty of nature up close and personal thanks to Geauga Park District’s Nature Scopes program. Nature Scopes does more than just give students a tool to access nature. Park District staff work hand-in-hand with participating teachers to meet Ohio’s Science Education Standards for fifth grade.
An annual workshop for Nature Scope schools offers teachers continuing education, park-provided lesson plans, a basic overview of binocular use and the chance to network with other science teachers and discover ways to implement natural history into their Ohio Academic Standards. Participating schools even receive a bird feeder with seed installed on school property for students to observe with their Nature Scopes binoculars.
By participating in the Nature Scopes program, each student earns a pair of Bushnell binoculars and two field guides. And if one has ever witnessed a child using a pair to examine a bug, the joy is unmistakable and the lessons invaluable. Thank you, Geauga Park District Foundation, for its financial support of an exciting science program.

We are so proud of all our Chardon inventors.
Summer Moving Plans
Students who are moving from the area or are transferring to another school next fall should notify the school office as soon as possible. By notifying the school of the child’s withdrawal, parents/guardians will speed up the process of forwarding important school records to the school where the student will be enrolling.
CHS Makes Newsweek Best High Schools List
Newsweek and The Daily Beast analyzed the data from thousands of high schools to find the country’s best. The ranking highlights the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation — those that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads.
Congrats to Chardon High School for being one of 77 Ohio schools to make the grade. The list is based on six components: graduation rate (25 percent), college acceptance rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent) and percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICE course (5 percent).
Student Immunization Update
By the start of next school year, seventh graders are required to have a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acelluar pertussis) booster shot. Parents/guardians must provide the school with written verification of Tdap immunization from their healthcare provider. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from school until the requirement is met
This requirement is a state law. Please contact the child’s physician now to see if he or she has already had this shot or to make an appointment to receive it. The school district has already begun accepting written verification of this vaccination for next school year.
The vaccination can also be obtained through the Geauga County General Health District. The health district holds monthly walk-in immunization clinics. Contact them at 440-279-1950 for more information.
Immunization records can be faxed to school at 440-286-0461 attn. Lori Strickland, RN.
