Sweet Maple: How to Make Maple Confections

The West Woods Nature Center
Join the award-winning maker of maple products, James Miller, as he demonstrates sweet ways to use Geauga County maple syrup.
Sew Your Own Gaiters Workshop
Jan. 16, 1-3 p.m.
Big Creek Park, Meyer Center
Sew a pair of waterproof gaiters. Materials provided; participants can bring their own sewing machine, or borrow one from the park district. Fee is $20. Registration required.
Geauga’s Forgotten Frontier Fauna
Jan. 17, 2-3 p.m.
The West Woods Nature Center
While some of Geauga’s wilderness wildlife have made remarkable comebacks, others are gone for good. The demise of wolves, cougar, elk, rattlesnakes and passenger pigeons is chronicled using historical accounts from Geauga County pioneers.
X-treme Winter Fun Day
Jan. 18, 1-4 p.m.
Orchard Hills Park, Lodge
Have some extreme fun snowshoeing, bringing a sled for a downhill run, learning about winter wildlife and warming up by a fire with hot cocoa and s’mores. A drop-off program, registration is required.
Timbertots: Wonderful Woodpeckers

Big Creek Park, Meyer Center
Youth ages 3-5 with an adult will explore indoors and out to discover all the wonderful things about woodpeckers. Registration required.
Winter’s Night Fireside Songs & Stories
Jan. 22, 7-8:30 p.m.
The Rookery, Great Blue Heron Lodge
Gather at the hearth with tea and hot chocolate for winter-themed stories and songs for all ages.
Full Moon: The Wolf Moon
Jan. 23, 6-7 p.m.
Observatory Park
January is a “wolf moon,” so participants will explore the fascinating lives of wolves and learn to “speak wolf,” then watch the full moon rise over Observatory Park.
