Skydance: Flight of the Woodcock
March 25, 7-9 p.m.
Take a behind-the-bushes look at the courtship antics of the American Woodcock, a goofy, pop-eyed, Pinocchio-beaked bird the size and shape of a football. The program, suitable for school age children and adults, will be held at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve, 15681 Old Rider Road, Burton Township.
Listen for the “peent” of the American Woodcock and witness his amazing sky dance. Participants may also hear frog calls and witness red-winged blackbird maneuvers as an added bonus as we await this twilight performance.
Registration is not required.
Phenology: Using Age-Old Science of Predicting Bloom Time
March 26, 2-3 p.m.
Denise Ellsworth, of the OSU Agri-cultural Research Center, will share how phenology works to help predict things such as what’s blooming and what insect activity is in the near future. Program participants will then learn how to customize an easy-to use, web-based biological calendar for garden plants and insect pests.
The program takes place at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township.
Registration is not required for the free presentation.
Grandparents in the Park: Spring Break
