2016 Park Poster Contest
The Geauga Parks District new poster is a snapshot of all you can do in your Geauga parks. Snap a photo with the poster and win a $20 gift certificate to The West Woods Nature Center’s Tree Tops Nature Store.
Where are the posters? Take a picture with a poster already on the wall at a local business or park or pick up a free copy of the poster at the desk of one of these participating locations: Big Creek Park’s Donald W. Meyer Center, Burton Public Library, Destination Geauga, Geauga Public Library branches, Great Lakes Outdoor Supply (Bainbridge, Middlefield and Chesterland locations), or The West Woods Nature Center.
Feel free to get creative with the photos (location, pose, props, composition), or just stand next to the poster on the wall and show us how much you love the parks with a smile. Then to enter, just share the picture via email at marketing@geaugaparkdistrict.org, on our Facebook wall or on Twitter or Instagram using #geaugaparkdistrict.
The park district will draw one winner a week through 2016 one win per person.
Solar Day and Solstice Sunset
June 20, 6-9 p.m.
June’s full moon also falls on the longest day of the year, and to celebrate, Observatory Park, 10610 Clay St., Montville Township, will be crawling with explorations of solar energy up until sunset on this day: folks can toast marshmallows with the sun’s energy, track its motion across the sky, try out a sundial and experiment with solar electricity. After the latest sunset of 2016, stick around for the rise of the full “Strawberry Moon,” which we’ll then observe with park telescopes. Registration is not required.
Moth Madness
June 18-19, 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Naturalists Tami Gingrich and Linda Gilbert, with other moth experts, will monitor mercury vapor and black light stations set up in three different locations/habitats at Swine Creek Reservation, 16004 Hayes Road, Middlefield Township. Ask questions, study these fascinating night-flying insects and bring a flashlight and camera for some great photo ops. Registration is not required.
