Kelso Afternoon Canoe

Aug. 13, 1:30-3 p.m.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Float on the cool waters of glacial Lake Kelso and see rare plant and animal life. Basic canoeing skills required. Call 440-279-0880 to register.

Night Sky Viewing

Aug. 13, 7-11 p.m.

Observatory Park

Take in the wonders of the night sky using park telescopes! Planetarium program if weather won’t allow night sky viewing.

Nights Out in the Parks: Movie Night

Aug. 13, 8:30-11:30 p.m.

Orchard Hills Park, Lodge

Celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service with episodes from the Ken Burns film “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” Pre-show activities with rangers from the National Park Service at 8:30 p.m., and an ice cream truck on hand with free treats; movie at dark. Free popcorn and lemonade. Bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Polliwog Paddle Family Canoe

Aug. 14, 1-3 p.m.

Eldon Russell Park

An easy-paced, short-distance float on Upper Cuyahoga River for families. Ages 5 and older with an adult. Registration required.

Sky Tonight Planetarium Show

Aug. 14, 2-3 p.m.

Observatory Park

Join in the Robert McCullough Science Center for a planetarium presentation about what to watch for in the night sky each week. Building open house 1-4 p.m. Also get a chance to view the sun using our safe, solar-viewing equipment.

Pick-up Bocce

Sunnybrook Preserve, Shelter

Make new friends and play bocce ball in a beautiful setting every Tuesday throughout the summer. No experience or equipment needed.

Senior Day: Orchard Hills Park

Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Orchard Hills Park

Seniors, drop in anytime to enjoy a day of summer fun at Orchard Hills Park with fishing, geocaching, EZ Go Cart trail tours and park exploration. In collaboration with the Geauga Department on Aging, which will provide lunch. Registration required.

Hound Hike: The Rookery Ramble

Aug. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.

The Rookery

Explore with your favorite canine companion. Bring water and cleanup bags. Dog must be on leash and under control at all times. Registration required.

Full Moon Program: The Sturgeon Moon

August’s full moon is known as the “Sturgeon Moon.” Learn about these amazing, ancient fish, then watch the full moon rise at the Robert McCullough Science Center.
