Reap The Reward

Take a hike with a naturalist to seek signs of winter-active wildlife, including buck rubs, deer scrapes, scat, feeding evidence, prints and tracks in the snow, and then head indoors to the Affelder House for a restful chat fireside with new friends.

Affelder Adventure takes place Dec. 13 from 1-3 p.m. at The Lewis & Ruth Affelder House, 15139 Chillicothe Road in Russell Township.

The group of hikers will take its time but don’t be fooled into thinking the hike will be easy. Hikers must be able to navigate up and down hills, over sticks and logs, and in mud or snow.

Among the features of the hike will be the Affelder Falls, located in a remote area of The West Woods that is normally inaccessible to the public.

Registration is required.

Dress for unpredictable weather over possibly snow-covered terrain and wear waterproof footwear for off-trail conditions. Only the fire is wheelchair/stroller accessible. Bring a camera along for the hike.
