Nesting Osprey Adventure

July 5, 1-3 p.m.

The West Woods, Nature Center

Take a van trip to view local osprey nest sites atop cell towers. These awesome fish-eating raptors, on a fast track to recovery, have flown off Ohio’s Endangered & Threatened Species Lists in recent years. Registration required.

Adventure Day Camp

July 6-10, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The West Woods, Affelder House

Explore the great outdoors hiking, fishing, kayaking, biking, launching rockets, geocaching and more. Equipment use included in $150 fee. Program designed for youth entering grades 5-7. Scholarships available. Registration required.

Twilight Hike & Campfire

July 7, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

The West Woods, Turkey Ridge Shelter

Nature Explorers ages 6-7 hike into The West Woods to discover the sights and sounds as the sun sets, followed by a nighttime campfire with songs and stories. Drop-off program held outdoors. Registration required. CONNECT.

Manga In Nature

July 9, 1-3 p.m.

The Rookery, Great Blue Heron Lodge

Take one’s love of manga and anime outdoors; youth ages 10-15 will be surprised what they can learn about nature from Japanese comics like “Yotsuba” and “Moribito.” Participants will do outdoor exploring, then draw what they find. Registration required.

Grandparents Summer Picnic

July 9, 12-1:30 p.m.

Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve,

Sunset Shelter

Grandparents and grandchildren enjoy a day in the park with a stroll around the lake and a picnic in collaboration with Chardon Senior Center, which provides hot dogs. Please bring dessert or side dish to share. Registration required.

Exoplanets

July 10, 7-8 p.m.

Observatory Park,

Robert McCullough Science Center

Astronomers have found more than a thousand “exoplanets” orbiting stars other than the sun. Meet some of these strange, new worlds and learn how astronomers spot them, then if weather conditions permit, view the night sky using Observatory Park telescopes. CONNECT.
