The historic home that stands on the eastern side of Burton Village Square was built in 1891 for the family of George Ford, son of Ohio Gov. Seabury Ford (1849) and frst mayor of the village.
Today, it is the grand home of Quintealia’s, a Victorian tea parlor in its third year of existence, delighting visitors from near and far.
Three separate parlors are beautifully decorated with period antique furnishings and linens, and meals are served on vintage china while fresh flowers adorn every table.
The parlor is known for its exquisite presentation of traditional afternoon tea served on a three-tiered tray filled with delicious savories, scones and sweet treats.
More than 50 varieties of organic loose-leaf tea are also available. Other menu items include beef or chicken cottage pie, quiche, seafood and vegetable puff pastries, crepes, Welsh rarebit and speciaty salads. Fresh scones are baked daily and served with homemade Devonshire cream. Other desserts include homemade bread pudding, cheesecake and an assortment of pies.
Tearoom proprietresses Renee Petro and Annette Phillips are often asked, “Where did the name Quintealia’s come from?”
The parlor’s name was selected to honor Annette’s grandmother, Quintilia, a woman of ltalian descent who was nicknamed “Clara” by her employer when they found her given name difficult to pronounce.
She went by Clara from then on. A variation in the spelling gave Annette and Renee an opportunity to play on the word ‘tea” while paying homage to a woman whose brave spirit epitomized their own leap of faith. A photograph of Quintilia graces the mantle in the front parlor.
Quintealia’s Tea Parlor has hosted preschool princesses, grandmothers celebrating milestone birthdays, bridal and baby showers, wedding anniversaries and receptions, retirement parties, holiday get-togethers and perhaps most importantly, the daily celebrations of dear friendships.
All are welcomed to the elegantly adorned home where the hurried pace of life slows down, if only for a time, and relationships take center stage.
