Scholastic Art, Writing Awards

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit organization, identifies teenagers with exceptional artistic and literary talent and brings their remarkable work to a national audience through The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Northeast Ohio’s finest young talent shines in this crowd-pleasing exhibition.

Cuyahoga County teens submitted more than 2,100 pieces of artwork to the contest. A panel of local professional artists and art educators jury the exhibit and selected the awarded pieces. The top 650 individual works will be on view and open to the public Jan. 14 through Feb. 2 in the Reinberger Galleries located in the George Gund Building in downtown Cleveland.

Gold Key works are automatically entered into the National Judging in New York City, where panels of nationally renowned artists, art professionals and arts educators review Gold Key works from across the country. The artwork is judged in the digital format. Jurors select work for national recognition based on three criteria: Originality, Technique and Emergence of a Personal Vision.

Thirty-four awards were given to 16 Chagrin Falls High School students and three middle school students.

Portfolio winners are: seniors James Clement (Gold), Ana Medina-Fetterman (Gold) and Alie Medina-Fetterman (Honorable Mention).

Gold Key winners are: seniors James Clement, Allie Medina-Fetterman and Nate Stapulionis (2); junior Makayla Burnside; and sophomore Christey Mader.
