CMS Treasure Boxes Collected
Chardon Middle School National Junior Honor Society members recently participated in a service project to help those less fortunate this holiday season. The students each decorated a shoebox for a total of 56 and then donated items to fill the boxes. Items that came in were socks, mittens, hats, school supplies, toiletries, coloring/activity books and small toys.
The treasure boxes will be given to children in the Slavic Village area of Cleveland. Last week, the students loaded the treasure boxes into Rev. Bartley’s truck to be delivered to the children in need.
Sight for Students
The Chardon Schools’ nurses participate in an eye care services program called Sight for Students. Sponsored by Vision Service Plan, Sight for Students operates nationally through a network of partnerships with non-profit organizations such as the National Association of School Nurses to identify qualifying children and refer them to the program.
Parents can then take their children to one of the participating doctors for a free eye exam and eyeglasses when needed.
Chardon Schools’ nurses have a limited number of gift certificates for free eye exams and glasses. In order to be eligible for this program, one must meet the following criteria: Family income is no more than 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines; Child is not enrolled in Medicaid or any other vision insurance program; Child is 18 years or younger; Child or parent is a U.S. citizen or documented.
Please call the school nurse with any questions.
Holiday Support Group
Calling CHS 2012 graduates: Are any graduates going to be home from college over the holidays or maybe working or attending school locally? If recent graduates are feeling nervous or anxious these days, or just thinking about all that’s happened this past year, they not alone. Why not join our group as we talk things out?
Vicki Clark from Ravenwood MHC is hosting a support group on Tuesday nights at St. Mary’s. The first meeting was held Dec. 18 but it will meet again on Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 5:30-7 p.m.
For information, or to register, call Vicki Clark at 440-285-2170 ext. 214. Please spread the news to other graduates. Walk-ins are more than welcome.
