TES Lunch Bunch
Congratulations to Timmons Elementary School Students of the Month for January. The following first-graders honored with “Self Control” awards were: William Belew, Grace Bradesku, Summer Corcoran, Abbigail Davis, Elise Flinders, Rylie Nelson, Gavin Niehenke and Madison Pastor.
Second-graders were Olivia Damiano, Benjamin Hamilton, Sophia Lowe, Grace Lupoli, Thomas Meyers, Cecelia Paglia, Carson Simms and Lily Tatara. Third-graders were Alec Barrett, Collin Bell, Joseph Drsek, Anthony Franklin, Elena Lioudis, Nadia Saad, Trenyce Washington, Ella Wenger and Michael Yost.
KMS Students of the Month
Kenston Middle School is pleased to announce their Students of the Month.
Students selected for Student of the Month honors were sixth-graders Noah Maxwell, Eileen Raphael, Sydney Vanderbilt and Mason Zaller; seventh-graders Miranda Jacobson, Elise Markley, Pedro Michels and Ashton Taylor; and eighth-graders Katelyn Giebner, Paige Owen, Anthony Palazzi and Sam Slezak.
Bomberettes Take 1st Place
The Kenston High School Bomberette Dance Team earned first place in their pom and kick routine and Best Choreography at the regional competition held by Champion Cheer Central at Cleveland Heights High School. The team also earned the highest score of any team competing in the morning session.
The team is comprised of Selina Wilkerson, Eryn Donnellon, Leah Grcevich, Nicolette Severino, Chloe Butler and Katie Gross, Amelia Chantler,Taylor Tucholski, Graycen Wood and Rylie Terrion, Victoria Clawson, LaJoy Williams, Gabrielle Groff and Hayley Harris.
WordMasters Challenge
Kenston’s Timmons Elementary School third-grader Nya Ku earned a perfect score in the first of three meets for this year’s WordMaster Challenge, a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually. Dr. Theresa Petrick coaches the WordMaster team as part of her class.
KMS Presents “Once On This Island, Jr.” Feb. 8-9
Kenston Middle School will be presenting the musical, “Once on this Island, Jr.,” on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Kenston High School auditorium.
With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean flavored score, “Once on this Island, Jr.” is a feast for the heart, mind and soul. The highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.
The show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
Tickets will be available at the door the night of the show. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Speech and Debate Results
Last week, Kenston High School Speech and Debate Team took sixth place at the Laurel Tournament. Earning individual honors were: Alex Hajek, fourth place in Student Congress; Molly Kimpton and Katie Hajek, fifth place in Duo; Nadine Slezak, fifth place in Drama; Bobbie Szabo, fifth place in Prose-Poetry; Marie Agostino, sixth place in Prose-Poetry; Yar Lisheba, sixth place in Humor; and Emily Herbruck, seventh place in Impromptu.
Foundation Officers Elected
At the January organizational meeting, Mr. Andy Kenen, president; Mrs. Natalie Gdula, vice president; Mrs. Jennifer Thorne, treasurer and Ms. Mary Reid, secretary were elected as the 2013 Officers to The Kenston Foundation.
The Kenston Foundation has made extraordinary things happen in the Kenston Schools since 1983. The Foundation enhances educational programs throughout the district and promotes academic excellence and personal achievements through professional grants and student scholarships.
