Pandering to the Deadbeats

Seems like every time I read a news story about the many meetings of the Geauga County Commissioners it states the majority is devoted to giveaways and the bailing out of lower income households in this county.

When did the mission statement of our county commissioners evolve to these low moments?

Lately there has been talk of paying for citizens ailing septic tanks, demolishing personal property and promoting low-cost housing in our county. Silly me, I thought if someone wanted to move to this charming county, they could afford it first. I guess thats not how people think these days.

It appears to me that Geauga County has become a nanny county if you cant afford a septic tank upgrade, you just cry to the county commissioners and you get a new $13,000 upgrade. If youre on drugs, you get a free rehab and no jail time. If you need a free house and Buckeye Card full of sugary goodies, then you get a free life-long Section 8 house or apartment, or you get an organization to build one for you without interest.

All of this at least two of the present Geauga County Commissioners vote in with regularity and/or promote freely.

Silly me, I was raised to believe that if you didnt have the money for home upgrades or a better living condition then you went to college so you could get a good job and/or you got a second job to make ends meet. How old-fashioned and out of touch that life philosophy is now.

What people do now in this county is cry to the county commissioners and walla! They get a free house, free food, free septic system upgrade and even a county business loan for $300,000 that you simply escape from repaying by washing over the border… Oh the horror… The horror…

I think its high time the county commissioners quit being Santa Claus at every meeting and help the working person with lower property taxes and a lower sales tax instead of the pandering to the deadbeats.

As for me, I guess they can just give me yellow party plates, a pink trash can and a Section 8 apartment, and Ill just settle back and run off the grid having been enabled just fine. Why set my alarm and go to work any longer?

Working Hand in Hand

As director of social services in Geauga County, I would like to thank Junction Auto for its generosity and support of Child Abuse Prevention.

Junction Auto provided us with a prime location to display 565 pinwheels representing investigated cases of abuse and neglect in 2012 on its property during Child Abuse Prevention Month.

In addition, Junction Auto made a monetary donation to Geauga County Children Services for each vehicle sold in the month of April. These funds will help provide preventive services to the children and families of Geauga County.

The outstanding support received demonstrates the commitment Junction Auto has to working hand in hand with us to keep Geauga county children safe.
