Exemplary Public Service

Kudos to Huntsburg Township Trustee Nancy Saunders who took time out of her busy out of state vacation schedule to return my call and answer some concerns regarding the road conditions near my home.

She exemplifies what public service is all about.

Special thanks also to Kevin Knife, Huntsburg’s road supervisor, and Trustee John Hunter for taking time to meet with a group of residents who are not happy with the current road conditions on the road we all live on. With great patience, they took their time to explain in layman’s terms the problems that have existed with the road since its beginning. They were very knowledgeable in their respective duties.

They all three personify what public service should be. They understand that it is a privilege to serve and I say … Well done and thank you.

Amazing Services, Activities

My wife and I would like to thank Sandy and the entire staff at the West Geauga Senior Center for their dedicated care and service to the senior citizens of Chesterland.

The number of activities and services at the center is amazing: exercise classes, learning programs, crafts, special speakers on a variety of subjects that are relevant to the aging population, games, meals, bus trips and fellowship, which at this point in time in our lives is so important to our emotional and mental health, especially for those who are lonely or physically impaired.

Also, there is the opportunity to enjoy water exercises at the Metzenbaum Center.

We are so fortunate to have the large facility provided for our use by the Patterson family. It is warm, inviting and provides plenty of room for the many activities and programs available to us.

Personally, we believe that after my wife’s stress test a few weeks ago, she was taken off two and a half medications and we attribute this to the exercise classes and other activities we are privileged to enjoy at this wonderful center.

Once again, thank you so much for the things you do for the seniors of the Chesterland community.

Supporting Local Heroes

With each streaming an American flag behind them, the two lead riders of the ninth annual Burton-Middlefield Rotary Motorcycle Run roared out of the Geauga County Fairgrounds at mid-morning on June 29.

Total riders numbered 119, as Sheriff Dan McClelland and “Midge” led the 60-mile ride that started with coffee and doughnuts, provided by Maggie’s doughnuts, and ended with a picnic lunch, music by DJ Crazy Dave, a 50/50 raffle and military equipment, provided by the Gerry Farrow and the Burton American Legion Post.

The 50/50 raffle winner, Deputy Copen of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, netted almost $400, which he graciously donated back to the veterans’ fund.

This year’s run was a huge success because of the generosity of our sponsors, volunteers and veterans. Together, we raised $11,000 to help our Geauga County veterans in need.

A big thank you to the following:

Our Master Builder sponsors: Burr Funeral Home, Chagrin Animal Clinic, Geauga Door Sales & Service, Just 4 Fun Honda and Preston Superstore.

Our Hammer Swinger sponsors:?Concord Color, H&H Land Closing and Newbury Business Park.

Our Construction Buddy sponsors: Arms Trucking, Burton Station Fixture, Kleve & Associates Insurance, Molten Metal Equipment and VFW Post 9678.

Last, our Helping Hand sponsors, including Alvord Agency, Chagrin Valley Auto Parts, Claridon Mini-Mart, CR Noble Insurance, HI-Lite Maintenance, The Frank Agency, Todd Hornak and Van Ness Stone.

Burton-Middlefield Rotary would like to thank all of our sponsors, veterans, volunteers and participants for helping in this worthwhile project. We are proud to live in a caring community such as Geauga County and look forward to seeing the difference these dollars will make in the lives of our local heroes.

Thank you for your continued support of our local veterans.

Support Upcoming Levy

Geauga County Department on Aging, you are truly a blessing to the seniors of Geauga County and, because off all you do, I sincerely support the upcoming levy.

Before I became a volunteer, I must admit I was not aware of all the programs, classes and opportunities that are there for us.

Your staff is so friendly, helpful and caring. Seniors are offered learning experiences, crafts, trips, but, most important, they are able to socialize.

Your newsletter lets us know of all these opportunities at the different centers in the county.

I try to tell friends how easy it is to register and receive the newsletter so they can enjoy these blessings.

I hope the Geauga citizens will support the upcoming levy.
