Amish vs. Christian

Referring to last week’s article concerning the COVID-19 challenges in the Amish community, let us understand that being Amish is not a religion, it is a tradition that I am thankful to a part of.

Being Amish does not exempt us from obeying the government and local authorities, as long as it does not go against our Christian teachings.

We should be thankful for our local authorities and health department for their concern and willingness to help us prevent this disease from spreading.

COVID-19 takes the path of least resistance, meaning the less we respect it and the less we try to prevent it, the more of our friends will be hospitalized with this sickness, and, yes, there are COVID-19-related deaths under the Amish community.

As a Christian, we should be a non-resistant person, meaning we shall not resist against our governments. As a Christian, my duty is to respect and obey our local authorities’ concerns and requests — they have not asked me to do anything that goes against the teachings of Christ.

If we love our neighbor as our self, we should be concerned for their health and well-being.

Many thanks to our local doctors, nurses and hospitals for helping us. Everything that you do for one another you do for the son of God.

Please accept our apology for our community’s lack of respect to this matter.
